Being regular Hyatt resort users, we didn't expect Hawthorn to be anywhere near Hyatt comfort, but we were pleasantly surprised. Aesthetically, the lobby area is beautiful. The gift shop is conveniently open til 11pm and has good prices. The breakfast was decent for complimentary - eggs/omelettes (not made to order, tho), sausage, tater tots, pastries, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, juices. The evening snack (meal on Wed) was respectable (meatballs, chips & salsa, cocktails). The staff was friendly and helpful, and responded promptly to requests, and housekeeping did a great job cleaning up after our 3 kids! The suite was respectable, not spectacular, but perfectly fine - small kitchen w/ 2 burners, full fridge, microwave, dishwasher, dishes & utensils. My husband used the outdoor grills and was pleased that they were gas like what we have at home. It is true that cold air did disproportionately blow on one side of one bed, but each suite has its own temp control. All in all, for a family used to really nice resorts, this place held its own for a fraction of the price. Don't get me wrong, it's not the Hyatt, but it's not $300 a night, either...
just returned from a seven day trip to Florida and stayed at the Hawthorn Suites Lake Buena Vista. I did lots of research before I booked this one and just had a good feeling about it from the start. I checked the reviews that were on tripadvisor a few times before making my final decision and the ratings and comments were on the money.
The suite we had was on the first floor and worked out great for us. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything I would need: dishes, utensils, pots and pans, dishwasher, microwave, stovetop, frigde, towel and sponges, toaster, coffee maker, dish soap, etc (you get the picture). The pictures on their website show you just what the suite looks like. It was great having the two tv's and separate bedroom so I could stay up and watch tv while I sent my son to bed. The bedroom was typical of a hotel with two beds, tv, bureau and closet. The unit was very clean and well maintained as well as the rest of the facility.
Breakfast was served each morning and we used it four out of the seven mornings we were there. The only drawback I saw was that there was no variety to the items they offer. It was the same every morning. There were hot items, cereal, bread, bagels, doughnuts or danish and juice, milk and coffee. It's great for kids or people who don't eat a lot for breakfast and was definitely a time saver in the morning as we were able to grab a bite and head out to the parks. We also made it back to the hotel one afternoon in time for the social hour. That was a neat little extra. BBQ pork sandwiches, cole slaw, baked beans and tortilla chips w/salsa was the menu for that day along with beer, wine, soda and juice. Nice little snack after a day of junk at the parks.
The pool is a bit small but we never had a problem with too many people in it. We didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel so the few times we went in for a dip was fine. Kids for my son to play with but not so many you couldn't move.
The staff was always polite and knowledgable about the area. The two times I asked for directions, they were concise and right on. There was a person offering tickets for the area sites but they weren't the least bit pushy. The store has very limited hours but I didn't find that they offered much that I needed so it was no big deal. With a fridge in the room, I went to the store and bought what I needed for the week.
We were traveling with my brother and his family. They had the "luxury" of staying at a disney resort (moderately priced level) and where quite content with their room when they first arrived. They were both in awe of our room, however, when they saw it and were amazed at the price comparison of the two for the amount of space we had compared to theirs. When they heard about the breakfast and social hour offerings, they were even more taken back.
All-in-all, I would suggest this place to anyone going to the Lake Buena Vista area of Florida. I had no regrets in my choice and felt it was well worth the money. As an added note, if you get the Orlando Magicard, you can your room for even less. I would have saved $10 per nite from the quoted $89 rate if I had it.
Not bad for the money. Be sure you get an Orlando Magic Card...it will save you money. We had a room quote for $129.00 per night but with Magic Card we got the room for $99.00 a night. This hotel was worth $99.00 per night. The first room we had, the air conditioner was broken, we were freezing to death...can you believe that we were freezing in July! It couldn't be fixed so we were given a new room on the same floor. The staff was friendly enough. The food is okay, and it was nice to be able to run down for coffee and bagels etc they did have eggs and waffles too. The Happy Hour is not exciting. Monday night it was meatballs and chips with beer and wine. One night they had hot dogs, which helped hold my husband over until later that night when we had dinner. I could stay there again, but I will probably go somewhere else next time, because I like to experience other places.
We stayed at the Hawthorn Suites Oct 02 and had a Great time, we would definitely return again, it is in lovely surroundings when you think that in a couple of minutes you can be in the hustle of the traffic. Great free breakfast every morning plenty to choose from. Room cleaned every day.
I was a little surprised there was no bar but it didn't spoil anything as we just called at the local store and relaxed by the pool each evening with a drink arranging the next days events.
