I was wondering if anyone (who smokes or was with someone who smokes) recently came back from WDW and flew there? How did you get around the lighter situation. Do the shops in MCO carry them or did you get them at the resort gift shop?

TIA!! :flower:

Honestly, I brought matches from home. I didn't want to risk getting busted at the airport. When I got low on matches I got a couple of books of them at the resort. I don't know why but it seemed as if I was the only one around me in the smoking areas w/matches, almost everyone I saw had lighters. Either there were a lot of people driving or they just didn't care about the rules.

Did you take safety matches, because I know the strike anywhere matches are banned, too.

Honestly, I don't know the difference between the two!!

My advise is to just quit and avoid the hassel altogehter!! Although I am sure you have heard that one before!!

Yea, no, sorry... I didn't really post this looking for anti-smoking advice. But thanks...

I believe you're allowed to bring 4 books of matches on the airplane with you..

As to lighters, just the other day the TSA announced that they have determined that one EMPTY zippo lighter "does not pose a security risk" and will be allowed on the airplanes.. (Does that mean that TWO "empty" zippo lighters DOES pose a "security risk"?? :rotfl: ) Of course an empty lighter isn't really going to do you much good..

Your best best is to just bring the allowed books of matches and then purchase a disposable lighter at the resort to use for the time period that you're there..

Have a great trip! :flower:

The resort gift shops sell lighters.

I bought a 4-pack of strike on box matches at Wal-Mart for 50 cents that I'll keep in my computer case, then will buy a lighter at the resort.

Good to know that they are at the resorts. I'll have to check Wal-Mart for those matches.

Thanks so much for the advice!

Are they the wooden matches? If so, I believe they are considered the "strike anywhere" matches and won't be allowed on the airplane..

I'm so confused about which matches are allowed and not allowed. We've got a box full of the book style matches (like you get in bars and restaurants).. are those okay?

The "book" matches you have are fine - like the ones you get in bars and restaurants.. However, you can only take 4 books of matches on the plane with you.. If you think you'll need more until you can track down a lighter for use after you get there, have a travel companion bring 4 books too.. :flower:

Can someone fill me in on the "lighter rules" Can you not bring lighters on airplanes anymore? Can you put one in luggage?

I would think that you could pick up a disposable lighter at an airport shop in Orlando just after arrival.

I'm sure it won't be as cheap as Wal-Mart...but, probably competitive with Disney prices.
