I've done the no-no and have been so encouraged by my loose clothing that I just had to weigh mid-week and see how I was doing. Even though my clothes are looser my pounds are exactly the same. I'm trying to psyche myself up for a possible plateau this weigh day on Tuesday. I've been so encouraged by the pounds coming off that I hope I can make it through a week or two of staying the same- I haven't cheated at all- and am slimfasting 2 meals and eating one healthy meal- + I've been walking/biking for atleast 5 days a week- so I feel like I'm working harder and less weight is coming off- any stories on your longest plateau when you were being disciplined with your eating/exercise? Thanks all!!
Tara- huffing after a 40 minute bike ride- funny when I was in my 20's I never had to switch gears going uphill- boy has that changed!!

Hello from a fellow Tennessean!

I find that I plateau about every 10 pounds, but I also feel like I am losing during the plateau. I figure that my body is tightening up so I won't be too saggy baggy. I usually plateau for about 2 weeks and then I'll start up again. Been doing WW since last September so I've seen this happen a time or three!

Good luck on your plateau!!!

Since your clothes are fitting better my guess is that you have been building muscle (and remember that muscle weighs more than fat!) and that you are not in a plateau. If and when you do hit a plateau, one thing that has helped me in the past is changing the amount of calories I am eating. I think when you are eating pretty much the same calories each day, and if they are low, that your body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism slows in response to that. It seems, based on how you described your eating habits, that you are taking in between 1000 and 1200 calories a day. You are also burning quite a few calories with your exercise program. If you plateau, consider bumping up your calories slightly (maybe to 1300 or 1400 per day) for a few days, and then scaling back to your regular calorie level. It seems like increasing your calories goes against weight loss logic, but believe it or not sometimes weight stalls because you aren't eating enough. You seem to be doing great...keep it up, and don't get discouraged if your weight stalls at times.

Poor Tara :(

See what happens when you sneak weigh? Uh huh, it doesn't always work the way we want it to work.

I'm not sure, but I think I hold the WISH record for weight loss plateaus so far. Although, our Miss Glo may have broken that record by now :)

I lost 18 pounds my first 3 weeks on Atkins. I took the WISH challenge and then the weight loss stopped dead. I think I lost 1/2 pound on my first week of wish then nothing at all for 4 weeks. That's right 4 weeks without losing an ounce.

Fortunately, I had measured myself when I began Atkins. So I drug out my trusty tape measure and learned that I had lost 16.5 inches total. That kept me motivated and determined, thank goodness. Add in the WISH support group and it really wasn't all that difficult to weather my weight loss stall.

If you have been weight training, there is a good chance you have changed some fat to muscle. You already know that muscle weighs more than fat. You could have gained instead, wouldn't that have been a shock :earseek:

Go measure yourself now, if you you haven't already done it. Measure yourself once a month, or every two weeks. I think you will see that you are making progress.

Something else you may want to consider. You may have reached the limits of the slimfast losing. I've never done that plan, I really don't know what I'm talking about. But if you continue to not lose and if you aren't losing inches, you may want to consider switching to something a little more formal like WW or controlled carbohydrate eating. It's just something to think about.

But if you are getting the results you want with this plan then stick with it. Whatever you do...don't give up! You have done so well and you have had good success. Just keep on keeping on.

Onward and downward!

6 weeks and no an ounce....man was I discouraged, and still am. I lost .5 pounds last week...and that is all in 7 weeks. Like Kath and thanks to Kath I started measuring. In those 7 weeks, I have lost a total of 13.75 inches. Three of which are right around my tummy....:) Yes, it is discouraging...and you loose confidance and hope, but don't use that scale....use the measuring tape and the feel of your clothes. As you tone, your muscles retain more water, then you build muscle, which weighs more than fat....You will succeed...do not give up!!!PM me if you need me.
