We are rather bummed out because we had tickets to be at Kennedy for the lift off but then the launch date was changed. Anyone else get to see it from Kennedy or how about at WDW? It looked spectacular on TV.

I live in Palm Beach Gardens, about 2 1/2 hours south of where the shuttle launched from. We just saw the launch about 15 mintues ago. It was amazing - fire in the sky - and so beautiful.

I remember that! I hope you get the opportunity again soon!
We watched on Fox in HD. Does that count?

We got to see a night launch while visiting in Jupiter in 2006. Nothing sweeter than a night launch from a beautiful FL sky.

Hi Jean,

Susan and I dropped the kids off to watch a football game and started driving to Cocoa Beach (along with most of Orlando, it seemed). We were about 20 miles away at T-45 seconds and pulled over along with everyone else and watched the lower part of the sky light up with a sudden orange glow and then a brilliant yellow flame slowly rose into the sky. It was clear and there was a brilliant full moon that had just risen. After the solid rocket boosters separated, the flame was a very bright white and the shuttle continued to be the brightest star in the sky for 4-5 minutes.

I have heard that this was to be the last night launch and it reminded me of being in London when Concorde came over for the last time.

Glad that some of you got to enjoy this. It has been our dream to see a night launch from the viewing area at Kennedy but it just hasn't worked out. We even changed our Oct. WDW visit dates but then the launch date of STS-125 was changed again. I have seen one launch from WDW but that hardly compares with a view nearby. Thanks for sharing, everyone!

My DH & I live just northeast of Orlando. We watched the launch from our front yard (where we watch every launch). It was spectacular. The evening was beautiful with a full moon hanging low in the sky. The lights from the rocket flames lit a large portion of the sky. We were able to see the shuttle for about 2 1/2 minutes in the sky before it was out of sight.

I love living here!

No night launches for us, but DH and I actually made a special trip to Cocoa to see the launch on 5/31/08. It was one of DH's life goals, and I got the benefit of talking him into the last Friday of Flower and Garden at Epcot. A win- win especially with the gift of playing in the warm water at Cocoa Beach, the day after the launch.

We watched from Titusville and are grateful to have that particular memory.

It was not to be the last night launch. This rumor keeps being passed around for some reason. There will be more.
