the guy who was taking women, locking them in a dungeon and forcing them to have sex with him? was he for real? he honestly didn't think he did anything wrong. he is dillusional. i was flaberghasted. unbelievable.

I didn't see it Lewski. But I can tell you that he lived a few miles away from me! Obviously, it was big news around here.

We were talking about it in Violence Against Women case and some people wondered why the case didn't get more news attention.

I couldn't believe the police dismissed Jennifer's story. There are clever people in the world aren't there.

It was so upsetting and horrible to watch this story.

I absolutely couldn't believe the police didn't do anything about Jennifer's statement. It could have saved other girls from his clutches.

Yes, there are. Our instructor commented on the fact that the woman who escaped was African American and basically said that African American women can be really brave and really tough a lot of the time (that the ones she gets in some of her classes....she's in charge of counseling women on campus who are victims of sex crimes or domestic violence and of giving talks on how to prevent those things from happening.....are usually the ones who say things like "They'd better not mess with me.") She admitted to stereotyping beforehand (she's white) but the African American women in the class didn't seem to mind....they seemed to agree.

His name is John Jamelske, and he is in his 60's. I believe he brainwashed these women (who had problems or were down on their luck). I can see no other reason why these women would voluntarily stay in this hole in the ground that he built in his backyard. He even had one young girl so under his control that he'd regularly bring her to a bar for karaoke night, and none of the other patrons ever suspected anything.

I tried to get some of the old news articles for you, but syracuse.com is down.

Anyway, I did find out that his home is for sale. Only $75,000 -- if you can deal with it's history! :earseek:

As a caucasian, I would have taken him on (but glad to not have to). He would have wanted to set me free.

No thanks on the house, although it's in a nice neighborhood. Some one will buy it.

That's kind of what I was thinking when she said that, Lewski...there's no way he would have been able to keep me in his dungeon for three years or whatever (not when he's in his 60's, I'm in my 20's, and if I had any way of getting hold of a weapon, I wouldn't be afraid to use it.)

I saw the show and was surprised that it didn't make the national headlines when the story broke. I felt very sorry for his victims, especially the first girl that he kidnapped when she was only 14yo and who he kept locked up for 3 years.

I think this story was the basis for an episode of LAw and Order SVU. I had no idea it was based on an actual case. How scary!!!!

It was national news. The article I posted was in USAToday.

CNN had 2 articles from April and May of last year
April article
May Article

The article Bichon Barb linked to mentioned his wife didn't die until 1999....which means she was still alive when he started this in the late 1980's. If I were his sons I'd have to wonder how their mom was treated for all those years and if she ever had an idea he was doing such a thing.

It was in the national news??? I must have missed it. I depend way too much on the DIS for getting my daily news fix.
