We are planning on cruising the western route. How was the weather in the morning, afternoon and night? We are making a list of clothing to bring and we are wondering if we will need sweaters at night if we decided to talk a walk around the deck after dinner.

We sailed the Eastern in January. Yes, take along a sweater or jacket for strolling in the evening. Deck 4 is wonderful for relaxing after dinner!

We sailed the eastern in January and the weather was absolutely beautiful. The days were warm high in the upper 80's and nights in the 70's.

My family has sailed in January, and we liked it so much that we usually plan our cruises for January. Weather is beautiful, especially considering that we are from the mid west, and anything above freezing at that time of the year is like a heat wave for us!

We sailed Mid January 2002 to Eastern Caribbean and it was just beautiful! 12 days earlier my friends traveled on Wonder to the Bahamas and they froze. They onyl wore the one pair of sweatpants they had on deck and at Castaway Cay. Even Port Canaveral was chilly for them but was in high 70's 12 days later. You are pretty safe if going really far south to St. Thomas or St. Martin but Nassau can be chilly in winter sometimes, not always.

We sailed last January and froze.
There was a storm moving across the south that had snow all the way down to Valdosta, Ga. This is almost to the Fl. line.
We wore our coats in Fl and on the ship until we reached the Bahamas. At the sail away party everyone is bundled up. The next night, the deck party was moved indoors because of the cold. At Nassau, there were gale force winds and we were unable to enter the harbor for a couple of hours. In Nassau it was sunny, but incredibly windy and the high was in the 60's. At Castaway Cay it was in the 60's again. You could sit on the beach, but it was too cold to get in the water. Also on the ship it was too cold to swim. This was definitly unusual weather but it can happen in January. Still as lousy as the weather was it was the best vacation we have ever had. It was topped only by the 7 day cruise we took in September. The weather then was 80's and sunny every day. Just be prepared and you'll have a great time.

I have not sailed on the Disney ships in January but I have taken another cruise to the Bahamas in January and would NOT do it again! It just wasn't for me...when I cruise or go to the islands for vacations I want it warm where I can go swimming or lay out without sweats on..it was just to cold to go in the water for me!

I have cruised in Dec, Jan & Feb. - the weather has always been warm and wonderful!! You'll always need a jacket or wrap in the evening as the ship is rather cool at night. When are you going in January? We're going on Jan 18th....aahhhhh!!! I can't wait!!!

Anyone sailed on the Magic in January? We are looking at the Jan 4th sailing westward.

We sailed on a different cruise line on Jan. 4, 1997. Excellent weather. West to Grand Cayman and Cozumel plus Jamaica. Great swimming weather everywhere. I don't remember even having to wear a sweater after the first night (from New Orleans).

2003 will be the first January for the Western Carribean for DCL, so you won't find anyone with Janaury experience on the Magic for the western carribean. We sailed January of 2002, to St Thomas and St Martin--the weather was chilly at Port Canaveral, but was wonderful for the rest of the trip.

We have sailed twice to the western route on other cruise lines in January. It will be cooler than what you would expect when you leave but you never know. As a Floridian told us, one day could be 50° and the next in the 80's. When we were at Key West the high the first time was 61°, not exactly swimming weather but warmer than what we have here in Iowa for that time of year. I stll wore my shorts! The closer we got to Cozumel the hotter it got and it was wonderful, shorts, swimsuits just what one would expect. Seas were calm, and I don't remember any rain storms. January is a great time to sail the western route. I have been to Cozumel in May, it was beastly hot and humid. Although I still had a fantastic time, I was on a cruiseship! happy cruising Kathy

Mermaid02 and I sailed last January (27-31) to Nassua, Freeport and CC. The weather was perfect! We did need a sweater in the evening as we strolled the deck, but during the day it was wonderful! When I go back again (and bring the hubby and kids) I will look at doing something in January or February.

Coming from Maine, the warm weather was a welcome break. Mermaid and I flew back into a snowstorm and in a matter of 12 hours saw a 50 degree temperature drop!

We did the 7 night cruise in January (MLK week). The weather was spectacular. Low to mid 80’s during the day, low humidity. :sunny: This vs. our August cruise where the temp’s were in the upper 80’s low 90’s and very humid. :earseek: Didn’t want to be outside much then, unless you were in the pool areas. Would do January again – no doubt about it.
