Thanks to April....she has motivated me to run a race! I am thinking of running a 5K at Epcot in June. Can anyone tell me what to expect? How do they decided how you line up as far as at the start of the bunch or the middle or end? I have no clue what I am doing but it gives me something to look forward to a start working for. I am going to start working on jogging come Monday. I am very excited. Any info would be greatly appreciated...I am kind of out of my territory here.

well done you: I've done quite a few 5ks and over the last two years have progressed up to half marathons so be warned, running is addictive! I've not done a 5k at epcot but I did the 10k in January. If there's not a lot of people then you'll just line up at the start in rows where you want to (if there's a lot I guess Disney would organise you), I always head to kind of near the middle as I'm not fast but I don't want to wriggle round too many walkers. Once you've been going a few minutes it's easy to weave in or out if you're too slow, or drop back without upsetting anyone if they're too fast. My only other advice, just do your training: doesn't matter how slow you are, or how much you walk at first, just keep progressing little by little each week. The worst thing you can do is too much too soon, you don't want to get injured. Enjoy it and good luck.

Don't know if you have jogged before or not but I'm training to run a 5K myself and am using this program which helps so much! The structure helps you to increase your running at a good pace but it isn't overwhelming. Good Luck!

This is the one I was aiming for. I lost a nephew to Crohn's disease, he had 2 liver transplants during his illness. So I thought this would be perfect for me to run.......not only will it be my first race but it is to raise awareness or organ and tissue transplants. There is one this weekend in Orlando but I think it is way to soon. I can walk/jog 2 miles in about 30 minutes but I actually want to run a race to try to win it.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I am going to start training tomorrow on the treadmill at the gym. I'm sure some of the trainers there will also be able to give me some pointers. I usually do the treadmill to drop calories at a 15 incline so it will be alot differant jogging at no incline.

this an offical race at epcot? when is it? how does one sign up, I will be there in june.

Good luck on your journey.

littlegreydonkey is right in her post, and it will become addictive. I have done two 5ks around here for the last 2 years. I am aiming for the WDW 1/2 in 2005 WISH Con Baby!
