Anyone ride the "forbidden" rides when pregnant?

I am going to Disney over 4th of July and will be 15 weeks pregnant. I know some of the rides are no nos, but I really want to ride Splash Mountain, Test Track, Thunder Mountain, and teh safari at Animal Kingdom. Are they really that bad for pregnant women. I have been on on SM and TM 100's of e times and really don't see the big deal about them.

Thank you!

The guidelines are there to protect Disney from lawsuits. That said, when I was 15 weeks pregnant, I felt great and my midwife gave me the go ahead to be as active as I liked. I would have ridden the Safari without a thought. A little bumping? So what! It's not like the baby's going to fall out of me!

What I'd be more cautious about would be any rides with lap bars. I wouldn't want to be suddenly jolted into the bar and have it press hard into my stomach. I don't think that would be a nice experience for the baby. If I rode Test Track, I'd be sure to get a seatbelt with a shoulder strap, and to put the lap portion under my stomach, not over it.

I think it's a judgement call.

Not a doctor, and never stayed pregnant long enough to have to worry about such a thing but I wouldn't think twice about doing the Safari if you're having an uncomplicated pregnancy. It's no worse than driving down a dirt road.

I would NOT do Thunder mountain because of how hard you tend to slam into the lap bar at the end breaking into the station, as well as the fact that some of the drops will ram you into the bar as well.

With the new lap bars on splash mountain, I'd be hesitant to do that one as well.

Test track... it's not *too* jerky, but I'd still probably take a pass.

I'm having the same struggle, except I will be 6 months or so when I go. I will do the safari and I've talked to my midwife about considering splash mountain. As much as I want to do btmr I will likely avoid it, I think the bar on the belly would be the problem on that one.

I am not going to offer an opinion on this matter, but I can tell you what the "official" outlook is... I used to work at Star Tours in 2001, and we were not allowed to "assume" someone is pregnant, so from that standpoint, no one will stop you.

What did your doctor say?

I miscarried in Disney. I didn't ride anything I wasn't supposed to be on but the Safari. I am nit sure it had anything to do with it. I was a little over 12wkd when we went. I got really dizzy our last day. Had another US when we returned and no HB at 13.5wks. Not sure what happened but I felt so guilty I even went. Please be careful. Rides can wait.

She said "the signs are there for a reason" However my office is very conservative.

I just wouldn't take that risk. You are only pregnant for a short time, so I would do anything I could to make sure you and your baby stay safe. There are a lot of other rides you can enjoy while you are there.

We went to a local theme park when I was pregnant with DD #2 and hubby has just had back surgery so he couldn't ride any rides either. We still had a great time and laughed at how we both couldn't ride a lot of the rides! DD #1 still had a great time regardless of mine and her Dad's condition. :)

Have fun and enjoy your trip! Congrats on the pregnancy too! :goodvibes

Agree with most other posters, would prob. just avoid the lap bar that might slam into the belly. Safari would be fine for sure. I would say the same about Splash Mountain but am not familiar with new lap bar someone else mentioned. Even if the ride has a lap bar, often you can hold it off your abdomen with one hand. I rode mission space ORANGE when I was about 20wks pregnant with DS4 too :crazy2: .

My wife also miscarried while at Disney. To the OP, please don't do it, nothing is worth the risk.

I went this past Jan. while I was 27 weeks pregnant, I rode all the kiddie type rides with my 2 toddlers and obviously was totally fine. The only "big" rides I rode were Soarin' and the Safari and had no issues with either. I would have rode Splash Mountain but it was closed for refurbishment.

Disney's going to be there for a while . . . why risk it for a ride you can do next year? We basically just followed our doctor's advice. We did Safari and Splash (the lap bars weren't there yet) but she skipped all roller coasters. Don't remember about test track - but think she might have skipped that one.

Please don't feel guilty. There is NOTHING you did to cause the miscarriage. Safari is no different than driving down a dirt road, and certainly didn't cause your loss. Many pregnant women do aerobic exercise (and are encouraged by their OBs to do so) while pregnant.
I am a labor and delivery nurse, and have even suffered 2 miscarriages myself. Miscarriages are most often b/c of something wrong with the pregnancy itself, not anything done by the mother. I hate to think you are walking around with this guilt. :grouphug:

I would say you are fine to ride the Safari, though I would probably ask to ride closer to the front if possible. Heck, I do that even when I'm not pregnant...that last row is BUMPY! :rotfl:

As for the rest, I would say it's just not worth the risk. If you went and did them all, chances are nothing would happen and you'd have a normal pregnancy. BUT, if something did happen, you would always wonder if it had anything to do with the rides you went on in Disney World.

Funny story about this...my cousin was pregnant with twins when she was at Disney. I think she was about 5 months along. She was told she could ride kiddie rides and anything that didn't have a lap bar. So she rode safari. About 1/2 way into the ride she had to go to the bathroom. Not a big deal though. She could wait. Then when the really bumpy part started she realized that this was going to be an issue. The girl WET HER PANTS. Emptied her poor bladder. She was so absolutely mortified. There was NOTHING she could do to stop it. She also started laughing and could not stop. Her pregnant giggles are famous in our family. Once she gets going she can't stop and I think the laughing and the bumping did her in. She was absolutely howling with laughter while tears streamed down her face. Thankfully she was wearing black shorts so no one could see how wet her backside was. They also had a shammie towel with them that was useful in the situation. But she had to tell the driver what had happened. He couldn't have been kinder to her about it.

She declared her riding days over until the babies were born. :thumbsup2

I did the safari twice while pregnant after my doctor told me it was fine. I avoided anything else with a warning. I think the greatest risk is placental abruption, which is much too great a risk for me.
