Has anyone ever rented points through a DVC owner? What should you watch for? Seems like it might be a good way to have a great trip on a little less money? Thanks for the tips in advance!

I have rented, twice, and it wasn't difficult. I should say it is what eventually caused me to purchase.

I would look for someone who has been on the Disboards this way you can see their posts and know exactly what you are dealing with. There has to be an element of trust between both parties.

Usually once you have paid, they will send you a copy of the reservation with your name on it. There is a lot more. Go over to the DVC boards and ask there. There are many who will answer.

What days are you looking to travel. What resort, and size unit are you look to rent?

Someone from another Disney website mailed us three pages from a book (I don't know what the book was) explaining the process, etc. My DH took one look at it and said it looked way too complicated and time consuming for him. I doubt we will try it.

I rented from a Dr. in Illinois once. It was great, he posted, I replied and I was able to use my CC as he took them at the office. His "girls" then scanned the receipt and sent it to me. They also sent the confirm letter.

Later I had a bit of a problem with ?? and I called him back and he took care of it. I think it was the dining plan or transportation.

The entire experience was wonderful, the room was perfect and it is such a value!!!! For $160 a nite we stayed in a beautiful 1 br at OKW with a wash machine, dryer, full kitchen and lovely patio with fan.

I would make sure the person has a high post count and posts that represent something about them. I post in the budget area a lot. Look at the DVC rent board and there are also sample contracts.

I have read once or twice about deals gone bad, but it was more bad judgement on the renters part and unrealistic demands from the seller. One guy sent a western union payment to the girl without any contract:scared1:

Good luck and it is a wonderful way to save money and have a beautiful room.

This spring is our second timed renting. It has been very painless. It's best to have a paypal account as this is the most secure way. Pick out your 1st and 2nd choices of where to stay. When you find a person to rent from let them know if you need anything special like handicap accesable or first floor for someone who can't do stairs, things like that. It really is very simple and we have recommended to friends that they do it this way. It is also alot more affordable then paying rack rates. Good luck and have fun.

We are renting from a DVC member for the first time. We were originally trying to just purchase points and then choose our resort. Unfortunately, our top preferences (BC/BWV) were booked for our desired dates in June and July.

SO...we actually found a reservation for rent on the DVC section of the DISboards. Our end result--BWV Studio for 5 nights/6 days for approximately $715. We have our "reservation" in hand and have paid via PayPal 25% down. He also arranged our dining plan for us.

Let me know if you are interested in any more info regarding my personal experience.

We rented once - then we came home and immediately bought points at the Boardwalk Villas. We were hooked. I think DVC hooks a lot of renters that way! And we've never regretted our decision.

MinnieVanMom - what part of Illinois are you in? I would be interested in renting from someone local and we live in central Illinois. We are interested in renting for December 08 if possible.

It's actually very simple and fast, if the member knows what they are doing.

A phone call is probably better than emails at helping to make it easier to understand.
