Anyone rented from the us dvc members?

I have recently posted a thread on the american DVC rental section.I had a very kind offer on here but was advised by this person to try and find someone with a home resort of where I want to stay.Someone has points they can rent us but I am not sure how to go about it as they are in the US.How would I pay them etc? As I have never rented beforeI am a bit wary as to whom to trust.The guy is a DIS veteren and has posted loads of threads.Any advice?

I rented from a guy on the US boards for a stay in February this year. I would most definitely recommend him - if you like, I can let you have his Email address and you could contact him to see if he can help you.

No matter whether you rent from a US or UK member, you need to bear in mind there is a risk (on both sides) and you need to make sure you have a copy of a rental agreement and also a copy of the reservation once it's been made.

Some members will try and arrange a conference call with Member Services but that can be complicated if you're in the UK.

My best recommendation would be to ask this guy if he can let you have the names and contact details for people he has rented points to before and see what they have to say. Do not pay for the entire reservation up front (a percentage now and one so many days before your trip would be the sensible way forward). When I rented, I paid by Paypal using a credit card - I just paid the amount in dollars to the guy's Paypal account.

Yes that would be great wilma.Where did you stay? I am very wary as never rented before but it is so much cheaper than booking to actually stay at these resorts.After looking through the DVC book I really don't mind where we stay.Mark and sue off here has points and there home is SSR and to be honest I think I will feel happier booking with someone from the uk.It probably is good to use paypal as it does have some protection.Thanks for the advice.I would hate to pay all that money and get there to find out we have nothing booked

There are tons of sellers on the US boards and therefore can sometimes get a competitive price.
We own DVC but have several times rented off sellers on the US boards without any problems and have also rented out our points to people on the boards from the UK and US.

Some sellers will take a deposit and then when you receive the letter from Disney with you name and info on it pay the rest. The best way to pay is paypal and with the dollar so good at the moment you are probably better off renting from a US seller.
Go with someone who has been on the dis for a long time and ask for a reference from a previous renter if in doubt.
