Wondering about peoples experiences. I understand that we will have to take a shuttle from the terminal after we land. TIA.

Yes. The rental car place is attached to terminal 1, there are two other terminals and Jet Blue flies into terminal 3. That website states you will need to take a free shuttle to the rental car place and walking is not an option. It is still at the airport. I am wondering what people's experiences are. Does it take forever?

We've rented a car from FLL. The shuttle was quick and the rental process quick and easy. The return was the same.

if you are flying Southwest it's connected. The shuttle takes too long. Walk to terminal one and do the underpass to the rental car. it's a very tiny airport and it takes longer to wait for the shuttle than it does to walk to terminal 1. Again if flying southwest, you are right there so no shuttle.

How do you walk to Terminal 1? From the map, the terminals are separate buildings? I am flying JetBlue. JetBlue uses terminal 3.

I was going just by "The Rental Car Center (RCC) offers 12 rental car companies in one building next to Terminal 1. Rental car customers no longer need to travel off-site to pick up or drop off their cars." and not the rest of it. Sorry.

At Seatac we have an rental car place like that, and it's super-easy to get the shuttles. FLL is way smaller than Seatac. We only took a cab from the port to FLL to get the car, so we didn't do it the other way.

Looking at a satellite view of it, it looks like LAX where you just walk outside onto the sidewalks and walk from terminal to terminal if you need.

That's OK bumbershoot. I did research on this, I read reviews on Yelp and on this board and recall someone saying that you can't walk to the rental car place(which is annoying if true because I would much rather walk). I am so used to MCO, just walking across the street and hopping into a rental...

I am also picking up a car at FLL. Seems like a somewhat easy process but I have not done it before. I am more concerned about the port of Miami drop of and pick up process.

rented a car from FLL about a month ago. it was super easy.

we did a TA cruise from spain to ft lauderdale, and then took a cab to the rental center at the airport to pick up the car (we spent a few days in florida before going home and needed a car), so i don't know about getting from terminal to terminal. however, there were a number of different rental car companies sharing the same building where we picked up the car.

we used budget. they had a lot of agents working so the line moved quickly; we waited maybe 5 minutes. once at the counter, our transaction took maybe 10-15 minutes. no hard sell for the insurance or anything, once we told the guy our credit card covered it, and no pressure to add on items like the gps etc. we also got a free upgrade to a brand new nissan pathfinder with 11 miles on it. we were really pleased with the whole process. i was really stressed beforehand about the whole ship to cab to rental car process, as we were supposed to meet friends for lunch, but it turned out really well and we made our lunch with plenty of time to spare.

fwiw, other companies' lines also seemed to be moving quickly. they've kind of got it down to a science.

It was a few years ago but we flew into FLL and picked up a rental car. We flew United so I'm pretty sure we came into terminal 1 and there were signs to walk to the rental car center. I thought that it was a pretty long walk with luggage from that point. I can't imagine dragging luggage from the other terminals all the way there. (Definitely not as convenient as MCO.) The terminals are not connected inside (as far as I can remember). To get from one to the other, you would walk on the sidewalk out front of the terminals (they are all on the outside of the loop, so it's possible to walk from terminal 3 to terminal 1 then go in and take the pedestrian bridge over to the rental car center without having to drag everything across traffic lanes.) It can be a mess to catch up with shuttle busses as there are many, many that circle the airport.
