Anyone remember this children's book?

I have two that I just don't remember the names of.

The first is a mystery and I think it is set in a hotel. All of the main characters have names like compass directions... Like mr. westin and things like that.

The second is a story about two boys whose plane crashes into a lake in the wilderness and only they live. They learn to survive and sleep on the beach. They make a fish trap to eat fish.

Anyone remember either of those? I would like to share them with my children.

Don't know about the first one. Second one does sound like Hatchet , but it's about only one boy, not two. My students just finished reading it this week.

For the first one, you might be thinking of "The Westing Game", by Ellen Raskin, which takes place in an apartment building. Great book, by the way!

I don't think the second one is Hatchet. I tried reading that and it just didn't seem the same. Oh well, they will enjoy hatchet just as much.

My girls loved The Westing Game. My oldest would read it out loud on car trips and then when her sister got old enough she read it herself. Good luck finding it.
