When I was a kid (in the 50's), that was the first "fast food" place similar to McDonald's that arrived in our area.. My mom didn't take me often, but when she did, I always got the same thing: cheeseburger, french fries, and a carton of milk..

From that point on, I never enjoyed "fat" french fries again.. LOL

Carroll's Corporation is the parent company of Burger King! There's some trivia for you- and Yes I remember when they had Carroll's restaurants!

Really? Well now isn't that interesting..:)

yes, I remember them from the 60's! Ours was eventually turned into a Burger King.:)

Carrols Corp headquarters is still located in Syracuse!

ETA: we used to also have Carrols Movie Theaters!

That name sounds vaguely familiar but I can't picture the place. :scratchin Since I grew up near Syracuse, we must have had those restaurants, too.

 I could never drink milk with a burger and fries.

OMG! I just Googled to see if I could find an old picture of the place.

YES! I remember this place now. Odd, when I first read the thread title, an image of orange arches flashed into my head. But, then I thought, "No, McDonald's is the one with arches." But, here are two pictures of the Carrols building with the arches and an orange sign:

Yes I remember Carrols. Does anyone remember Berger Chef? They were around the same time as Carrols.

McDonald's Big Mac is a copy of the original Carrol's Club Burger ... only the Club Burger was much better!

Had quite a few of those back when I was going to college in Syracuse, at the Carrol's on Marshall Street.

Around here (MA), Burger Chef appeared soon after McDonalds. If I remember correctly:

McDonalds Burger - 15 cents
Burger Chef Burger - 12 cents

Nope, don't remember Carrol's but I do remember Burger Chef. I miss it. :(

And I don't like "fat" french fries either, the "skinnier" the better!! ;)

Hey - thanks for posting these photos!! Gosh - do they ever bring back memories..:goodvibes

I went to school in Binghamton in the early 70s and Carrolls was the only place to get a late night bite to eat to cure the munchies, since they were open 24 hours.

I remember Carrol's Hamburgers they closed in the 70s but they now own and manage a bunch of Burger Kings and a couple of other fast food restaurants. Their fries were the best even better than McDonald's.

I loved Burger Chef...they had a topping bar which most fast food places at the time did not.

We live in NEPa and i think that is the Carrols i always went to as a kid! Certainly does bring back memories!

Yup...I remember it well. When I was first married, my wife and I used to go there quite often. Then it became a KFC.
