I remember a movie that was made there - because you were in the same building that was in the movie - that starred Bete Midler. I can't find it mentioned on any of the "extinct" attraction websites.

:confused3

Was it the movie where Bette wins the lottery, and then has to chase the ticket all over the different sets? I do remember that one!! Wow, it's been a looong time since I saw it (probably 1997)- if I remember correctly, it was a pre-show type thing for the Backlot Tour (if that's not right, I'm sure someone will correct me).

I don't know if the movie still runs- we haven't been on many of the MGM rides since '97. I know it isn't part of Star Tours, GMR, RnRC, ToT, Muppets 4D, or Voyage of the Little Mermaid. These are the only attractions at MGM we ever do anymore.

I can't remember the name of the movie either--and it was just on TV not long ago! But, I do remember that it was part of the backstage tour. There was a section where Bette Midler had to chase the ticket onto a window ledge, and a pidgeon got hold of it. then in another part, they showed you how they filmed her running into the subway after the ticket, but it was a false subway staircase. They got rid of it once "Honey, I shrunk the Kids" came out and they replaced those props with scenes from that movie.

Oh yes yes that's it! Wow, you guys are good! :thumbsup2 I always enjoyed that movie. :teeth:

from the IMDB website

Plot Summary for
The Lottery (1987)
Bette Midler plays a music teacher in this short film. She realizes that she's won the lottery, but then promptly loses the ticket out the window. The short film then follows her exploits to recover the ticket as it is grabbed by a pigeon, blown down the street and into the subway.

Summary written by Rob S.

This short film about a piano teacher (Bette Midler) chasing a pigeon which stole her $1 million lottery ticket was created as a Walt Disney World Attraction Short. Guests on the Backlot Tour at Walt Disney World could see both the short and the New York Street set where it was filmed.

Wow, you guys are amazing! :thumbsup2 Thanks!!!

This was part of the walking part of the back lot tour....back when it was good. They had the water tank, the lottery, the bee flying scene, and peaks into sets/filming of Mickey Mouse Club and other things....all before even getting on the tram. I used to love this but now it is just a shell of its former self.

I agree with you totally. I really enjoyed Disney-MGM more when it was a working studio. I was so sad last summer when we went into the animation building and no animators were there anymore. It was neat to watch them work. I also liked the backlot tour when you could watch the Mickey Mouse Club filming. Annette Funicello was a guest one of the days when I was there, and we could see them interviewing her. I also liked "Residential Street" on the backlot tour and seeing all the planes from "The Rocketeer".

And don't forget the Golden Girls house! THAT was my favorite part! :cheer2:

I remember watching the making of the Disney-MGM Studios hosted by Fred Newman (who was on the Mickey Mouse Club 1989) and they showed the short film "The Lottery" with Bette Midler. Garry Marshall of Pretty Woman fame directed it. They may have aired it on ABC or Disney Channel, I can't remember.
