Anyone refuse to go into Walmart? *Updated figures on Page 1*

I think I have been to Wal Mart twice and have no plans to ever enter another one.

I go to Target just about every Sunday after stopping at Starbucks. I'd rather spend a little more at Target and enjoy the shopping experience (clean store, organized, clean rest room, easy checkout, etc).

WalMart is the only option here - there's ONE other grocery store and it's the dirty store. (I really need to find the base commissary.) However, I've been to this WalMart at 7 pm and it still wasn't crowded... The benefit of living in the middle of nowhere!

I love our Wal-Mart! Love the prices, love the selection, love the pharmacy...it's never dirty...occasionally it may look a bit disorganized but the stockers are busy trying to stock shelves and it has to be a difficult task to do that with customers in the store. I wish the old man who owns the land next door would sell it to them, as they have wanted to turn the store into a super center for a few years now, but he refuses. So, when we want to go to a super center we have to drive an hour.

DH worked for our Wal-Mart 3 years. It was a good experience for him. They wanted him to take management training, but he is a farmer first and foremost and he wasn't ready to give that up yet, so he eventually left and found a different "extra" job (this one pertains more to farming so he enjoys it more). If he hadn't have worked there we wouldn't own 200 shares of Wal-Mart stock.

Our Target and Walmart are right next door to each other and both are very close to my house. I will usually choose Target. Our Walmart is very clean, but many times it is crowded and there can be some icky people that go in there (cussing, yelling at their kids). Target is smaller and has better quality. I do go in Walmart for certain things, but I'll usually send DH for those so I don't have to go.

However, yesterday I went to Walmart and saw something I'd never seen before: Self Check-Out! Has anyone seen those before? Very fun! You just scan each item then pay with either cash or your check card/credit card. Fun! I'm not sure how they prevent people from not scanning every item. I would think they would lose a lot of money on those self chek-outs.

I try to avoid it if at all possible. It is always so crowded and hard to get the buggy in between the isles. We do shop at Sam's for bulk and if I do need to get a lot of groceries then I will suck it up and go there.

Our Wal-Mart has self-check out, also. I love it! It's like playing grocery store! I can even do produce with ease!

I haven't seen self-checkout since I lived in new orleans, and that was at a super K mart or big k mart or whatever they're called. We loved it!

I posted earlier, but I must admit that some Wal-Marts are much better than others. Just like anyplace else, it depends on the management.

Our local Wal-Mart is FILTHY. It's absolutely disgusting. I will never go in there again. The employees are awful, the place is a pig sty and it's just yuck!

The quality of the Wal-Marts must really vary. When I lived in Oregon, Portland area, there were NO local Wal-Marts and we drove about an hour to check the closest one out at Christmas, to see what all the fuss was about.

Messy, disorganized, hated it. Continued shopping at Target.

Then we moved to Plano, zillions of Wal-Marts, the ones that aren't super are being converted, there are literally 4 Super Wal-Marts w/in 5 mile radius.

They do get busy, but they are spacious and most of the time do not feel overcrowded to me.

I like the prices and selection; I don't do all of my shopping there but go there regularly. Price w/o sacrificing quality is my driving force.

I have never noticed an abundance of "dirty, evil" people there running around smacking & yelling at their kids, most seem to be suburban moms/families.

I guess I don't know too much about their business practices, but if they are questionable I certainly think that these should be addressed in an appropriate manner.

Conversely, I find the Targets around here to be overpriced.

Try to avoid them at all costs. The parking lots alone are enough to send me running but add to that the crowds, loud parents, screaming children, etc. - ugghh, I cringe just thinking about it. LOL!

Our Super Walmart opened 2 years ago and it is still clean and well stocked.

But I still hate the place. Like Kyle said, you need a shuttle to get to the front entrance from your car, and once you make it inside, it is wall-to-wall people. And some of those people look scary!

I'd rather shop at Target.

I don't mind Wal*Mart too much, but there is one close to me that I refuse to patronize after DS almost got run over by another shopper (in the cart, not by a car) and I almost got in a fistfight with the moron and management did nothing to stop it. If nothing else they should have protected their employee, who had kind of been thrust into the middle of it, but they were a no-show. So, the heck with that joint.

What WalMart does is put a life insurance policy out on their workers without that worker's knowledge. If the employee dies, WalMart profits.

These types of policies are usually reserved for CEO's and other higher-ups of large companies where their sudden death could hurt the company.

This was found out the hard way when a 45 yo man was forced to work 48 hours in a 3-day period. He had a heart attack while attempting to get a 20 inch TV off of the top shelves by himself. He had just had a physical and his doctor had proclaimed him healthy. WalMart made 350,000 off of his death, and the widow found out about it and took WalMart to court.

She won. (I think.)

I guess I am in the minority here, but I love Wal-Mart. I have an obsession, as I am there almost every day picking up something else I need. Why do I go there? Because they have the lowest prices 99% of the time. Even with groceries, I try to do all my shopping there. It saves us a lot of money. I know I sound like a commercial for it, but I really believe that. No, I don't work there. And I'm probably too ignorant to let any social issues or scandals deter me from shopping there. In the short term, I care about my bottom line, and if that makes me a bad person, I guess I am.

I try to avoid Walmart because it's dirty (don't EVEN get me started on the restrooms! UGH!!!), unorganized, and I don't agree with alot of their policies...It dosen't seem like they treat their employee's very well. It's always a MAD house in there. Everyone is pushy and rude, the employee's are rarely helpful and their quality isn't the greatest on alot of their items. I go as little as possible. I do think they have decent prices on some things, and when I need to stock up on that stuff, I'll make a pilgrimage and get it all done in one shot.... which usually takes about 5 hours (just kidding, but not by much ).
