Long weekend. Want to travel light and avoid baggage carousels. Can any one recommend a decent quality carry- on that won't break the bank?

Thanks.

I don't have one yet, but a fellow traveler recommended High Sierra's carry-on bag with detachable backpack. The next time I'm in the market for a bag, I will be getting one of these bags.

I just went to TJ Maxx with my trusty measuring tape and got one there. They had plenty to choose from. Nice and cheap too.

Do you have one near you? If not, Target had quite a few nice ones that were fairly inexpensive.

I'm with Connie about TJ Maxx, I got a really nice carry on there, I liked it so much, I went back and bought the matching bigger suitcase they had too. Afterwards I looked up the brand online and Nordstroms had the exact same cases I just bought for more than double the price. TJ Maxx usually has a big selection of sizes and styles too.

Love TJ Maxx for luggage! That's where I got my carry on with wheels and hidden backpack straps.

Mike,

How does that hold cameras, lens, laptops and iPad (along with the respective cords). I'm looking to replace a backpack that (with laptop) is too tall for the overhead bins.

I highly recommend this one on eBags: very well made, holds a lot, very light.

If you're not in a rush, keep an eye out, (and sign up for eBags' email offers). They have sales all the time.

What Tobi said!

I just used this bag two weeks ago for a quick trip to the world. I was able to pack a weekend's worth of chlothes, toiletries, etc, AND 5 pairs of shoes, my laptop, and kindle. It fits perfectly in the overhead bins and is very light weight.

I'm not sure if you are a male or female based on your screen name, but wanted to put a plug in for Vera Bradley bags. I think they are perfect for a long weekend and there are so many styles. The duffels are great! :thumbsup2

Jack, I use a different bag for my electronics. Christy says that I "pack enough electronics to stock an ENG truck for a TV Station."

I flip between two:

The first is the smaller of the two:

The second is larger but VERY similar:

I use the smaller one for a work backpack also. I use the compartments that I would normally use for lenses for computer accessories. It works great. There is also a place to put file folders or magazines. My 15" laptop fits great in both as does my netbook/IPad. The IPad can fit in the front folder pouch.

But for walking around the parks or Europe  I use a Tamrac sling bag
