Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone has recently stayed at the DLH? We are booked there for June in a upper level resort/pool view room. I'm wondering about the construction. Is there lot's of noise because of the work going on? How much refurb has been completed?

Thanks in Advance for any info.

Jodi

We will be checking in on April 1st for a few days and I will do my best to get back here to give you a quick report. We made ours with our DVC points and it says we have Premium Room Category so I am not sure if it will be the same but I will give you my observations if no one else reports for you. PM me by the 10th if I haven't posted! I will be jumping back into craziness when I get back. :surfweb:

Bummping:cool1:,love to know to just booked(from CCI) for our June to july trip. I just reserved a basic room but would love to know about the construction going on.:goodvibes

OK, so now we are back from our Easter stay @ the Disneyland Hotel. I have to say I am somewhat disappointed but I will save that for the end.

We stayed in the tower that the main desk is in. Sorry, I threw away my map of the hotel grounds and I can't remember which tower is which. We had a pool view in room 2800, 10th floor, right over Goofy's Kitchen. :headache: Try not to get that end as there is constant noise emitting from all the machinery on the roof over the restaurants. I guess I could have asked for another room but I assumed they were full and didn't want to make a fuss as we had no problem sleeping. It was more white noise but we could not watch TV with the sliding doors open. :happytv:

The tower that is almost complete is the one closest to Disneyland. It looks beautiful. We could see into one of the rooms in the evening with the new headboard. I am not usually one to look into rooms but it was sparkling and the curtains were open. It looks like they are working in columns not floors at a time. The last 2 columns were covered and I heard little to no noise whenever we walked by the tower. I have some pictures but need help in figuring out how to post them. :confused3 The reflection of the fireworks on the side facing Downtown Disney is beautiful! I would pick the view over DTD than the pool personally.

Now on to my disappointment, I was sad to see the room we stayed in was in such desperate need of repair. The wallpaper was peeling from the wall in the bathroom, the shower dripped and it was obvious they had tried to repair them, when I was taking a shower one morning the water went back and forth between very hot to cold (not very cold but still a shock) and I already mentioned that the noise was constant. Now, if I had requested one of the standard rooms, I may not have been disappointed but we opted to use more points (we are DVC members) so we could have a Premium Room. No fireworks and a view of the top of Goofy's Kitchen but we were able to see the beautiful pool area and we were at Disneyland so there were positives. Oh, and housekeeping did not get to our room until about 3:00 PM each day, in fact one day we were in the room for our afternoon rest and just got towels and sent them on their way. What happened to the room being straightened in the morning? Are they cutting back on staff and stretching themselves too thin? Also, not that it is a huge thing, but for the 4 nights we stayed we got a newspaper the 1st and last days. Maybe they don't do it on Sat. or Sun. but I hadn't experienced that before. When did they change wake up calls to not be Mickey all the time? When it wasn't Mickey the first morning, it was nothing. My DS was so confused when he answered the phone the 2nd morning. Lastly, you know how you get your activities sheet when you check in? It starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday. Well we asked Saturday for the next one as we were not checking out until Monday. Guest Services said they didn't have one yet but we would have one at our door in the AM or in our room. Well it never appeared. We like to do a few of the things they offer at the hotel and it drives me crazy to think we missed something that would have been fun for us. But we were there for my DS's birthday and he didn't seem to care and that really was all that mattered.

Now those of you who are going to tell me... I did fill out the card in the room and gave it to Guest Services. Also, I did talk to our contact person at DVC as well. It was just that for the price they charge per night (my MIL tried to get a room and it was $200+ a night) you would think that this would be unacceptable. If I had not been on Disney property, I would have been out of there and never back again. We will be going back in June and this time we will be using our points for Paradise Pier but I have a feeling I will not be back to DLH. Maybe when I can be guaranteed a remodeled room.

I will tell you that I am not a spoiled person with hotels but I really felt cheated. I am sorry I didn't feel the magic that I have felt in the past when in my room. The hotel staff was great and we even got our DS to participate in the Easter Egg hunt on Easter morning. Don't get me started about the kids that were there. That is for a whole other posting. :scared1: But the staff was always helpful and smiling.

So sorry if I wasn't more helpful but ask if you has questions that I had not touched on.
:hippie:

I thought you could not use points once the Villas had opened up?

Jack,
You can use your points for the villas, DLH or Paradise Pier, just not the regular rooms at the Grand CA. Our problem was that we had canceled a cruise and they went to reservation points that could not be use for the Villas. I am hoping they don't change the rules, again.

And because of our recent stay, I am trying to convince my DH to stay our whole week in June at the Hotel Del in Coronado (a VERY nice DVC option not an exchange) but he is a much bigger Disney fan than I am and it will be Father's Day after all.

4 weeks ago, we stayed in the Dream Tower, facing DTD and the parks in a premium view (renovated, 8th floor) room. I would recommend that view as you can see the fireworks unhindered. The room was all new.

I would also say that housekeeping was lacking. One day, they didn't get there until late afternoon and we were asked to stay out of our room, she said she'd need an hour to clean it. I asked her if we could go in to just change into swimsuits so I could take the kids to the pool, this was OK. But then housekeeping called me when I was changing the kids to ask when I'd be leaving the room. I was in the room for 10 minutes total.

We also found food (nuts - not ours!) by the bed on our second night, clearly not very well vacuumed. Luckily, no one in our family has a nut allergy. Also, one of our towels was really what I would consider a rag, it was all torn up and the edges frayed, I was very surprised that it was allowed to be still in circulation.

The above said re: housekeeping, we still really enjoyed the hotel. We like the closeness to the monorail and enjoyed the look of the pool and the grounds. I'd stay there again.
