Anyone recently get AT&T Wireless cell phone?

We signed up a month ago online to have our 2 cell phone numbers transferred to AT&T wireless. It still is not working. I am soooo annoyed! I have wasted literally over 24 hours sitting on hold. Each time I call, I wait at least an hour and a half to talk to someone. They say they're waiting for our old provider, I call them, they say they don't get the request to transfer the number and NO ONE is following up on it! Once it actually is fixed, my next stop is to deal with the AT&T billing people, because of course we got a bill already even though we can't use it yet. Then, I need to find someone to complain to. If anyone has any problems with this, or knows who I could complain to, please let me know. This is just getting ridiculous. Thanks for listening to me complain. :D
 
I have heard of a lot of people having trouble. I was going to switch from AT & T to another company, but when I heard so many people having trouble, I decided to wait until next year. There was a story on one of those shows like Primetime or 20/20 about the same problem you are having. They were basically saying that you are at the mercy of the cell phone company. There is really nothing that you can do. Your original company just doesn't want to release your number. They want to keep you as a customer, and the new company can't do anything until the number is released. I hope things will work out for you soon.
 
I don't know that you could say it is AT&T...as the previous poster said it is a difficult process to get completed (changing carriers and keeping the same #). I would be upset about the bill and I wouldn't wait to call.
 
What is the cell company that won't release your number?
I am going to switch from Verizon to Cingular.
I didn't realize this was so difficult. :(
 

wow...that bites....are you still being billed by your old wireless provider

friendly advice from a long time ATT customer....

stay cool when dealing with customer service..they will usually make you happy...they'll probably credit your account for this one.....
I call once or twice a year just to ask if they have any special offers for their customers...

and if you don't have success with customer service..call them back 10 minutes later and you'll get someone else, somewhere else in the country, and might have better success...
 
The one we're transferring from is Cingular Wireless....I finally spoke to a manager yesterday and they said they'd release. The problem is, they were both having technical problems and waiting on the other one, and no one was following up with it other than me. Once I actually talk to someone, they've almost all been very nice and helpful, but you just get so annoyed sitting on hold waiting for someone for and hour and a half each time, then they say waiting on the other company, then same thing the next day. Today, I found a very helpful person who says its fixed....may take a few hours...we'll see. :D
 
I forgot to mention..I've never been on hold more than 10 minutes with ATT,,I think they're overwhelmed right now with the holidays and the whole thing of people switching companies and taking there number... your future experiences should be better..
