Anyone received free upgrade to AKL CONCIERGE ?

Has this ever happened to anyone ? if so in which season.
We are taking the plunge this year for our first deluxe stay. In a couple of years hopefully we will be able to afford concierge. How does it feel to get concierge as a free upgrade Is it much different ?

Free upgrades to concierge are few and far between. Yes you hear stories from people here who got them, but for every one that got one, there were a thousand or more that didn't.

I wouldn't get your hopes up and then get disappointed when you get there.

I think a lot depends on what type of room you've booked. If you've book Savannah view you're much more likely to get the upgrade for free. I've never heard of someone with a pool or standard view getting a free concierge upgrade.

Not expecting or hoping for concierge upgrade, just curious to hear nice stories of those who did I love it when Disney upgrades people it is so magical I am going to see what AP rates come out for September before deciding on standard or Savannah view. Either way I will be happy as it is the room decor itself that attracts me to this resort

A few years ago (1999ish) we booked a standard view Grand Floridian. It was off season, possibly early Feb. I e-mailed a few days before and asked if possible, we could be upgraded to a castle view. When we arrived, the check in seemed odd. He called someone on the phone to come down to the lobby. I had no idea what was going on, but dh had an inkling. We were then personally escorted to our main building concierge room, overlooking the castle. It was amazing, exciting, magical. Has never happened again, I don't expect it to, but it does happen, probably usually in off-season.
