We need to re-tile a shower in our bathroom. We have redone the entire room almost and thought the old tile was fine but when we went to clean it.. yeah, the grout is crumbling out. :headache:

So. I've gone to diynetwork.com BUT was looking for first-hand experiences or articles that people have followed successfully.

We're hoping to get it done tomorrow... if at all possible. It's a tub/shower combo..

Thanks for anyone who can suggest anything.

If your tile is good, you can just replace your grout. Home Depot or Lowes should be able to tell you how. We've retiles our bath's. We hired someone to do this. Most likely you'll need to cut your tiles. It took a day to tile, a day to dry, then a day to grout, then another day to dry.

We just had to redo the grout.

We called DH's contractor cousin who, amazingly, had time to run by... he took a look and said it was just bad grout.

Best move we ever made- he did that, re-did some drywall and ran an electrical ground for us, too!

Thanks for the hint it might just need re-grouted. I don't know that we'd of called him if I hadn't seen that.

you forgot all the days to remove existing tile, with out damaging floors and tubs, faucets, etc....

then hoping the existing drywall/cement board is still in good condition and smoothing it enough that the tile will sit flat.

My husband just tiled our shower. It was his first tile job and it came out absolutely beautiful! He said John Bridge's book "Tile Your World" is mandatory for this type of job. Also, he used "Kerdi" waterproof membrane and swears by that also. Here are some good links.

The below link is also John's message board which my husband was constantly on...

Please let me know if you have any questions...

ETA: We borrowed a wet saw which was a big help...if you do this yourself, you should definitely use one of these. You could probably rent one.

Also, tiling takes a long time if you are a first timer...
