Anyone planning next year's trip before completing this year's?

We often have 3 trips booked at a time. we are currently on a 2 week DVC trip, and have two others planned ( one in May and one in December).

Thanks Appleorchard!! I forgot that I need to pay attention to the borrowing/banking rules and the timeframe we will be travelling. I hope everyone enjoys'a each and every one of their trips that are in the works. I know my DH and I are so glad we bought DVC and can "plan" out our trips going forward. He of course is not as "obsessed" with every detail as I am.

I LOVE to plan trips!! We're new to DVC...and have one trip planned so far.
I've had the Disney Cruise planned for awhile now for the end of May, and then since we bought BLT, we are using developer points to stay at SSR for 7 nights after the cruise!!! (and getting a studio for inlaws for the weekend).

Tonight I have sat down and planned our next 2-3 trips.

I am hoping to get BLT for Dec for 3 nights. Then in Jan 2010 we will go for dh bday. Then I have planned 7 nights at BLT for June for ds bday!! Just waiting for March 1st to make the ressies.

Then for 2011 we may just take the one week in the summer...we can work on that after the cruise!

My dh does like to plan, but when I start talking about plans before we've even gone on our upcoming trip...he gets that glazed over eye look thing:crazy2: ;)

I usually kick around ideas for half the year and then make solid plans in the Late Summer/Fall. I have multiple vacation clubs/plans so there are a lot of possibilities to consider.

Just be careful you don't go into planning overdrive and forget to enjoy the trip you're on.

I'm excited to head to VWL at the end of this month but I'm already thinking about a cruise and BLT for next year. Anyone else out there way too into planning?......

We're lucky enough to have two trips this year (the October one is thanks to free reward flights with Continental) but I've still got a cruise booked for August 2010 and we're also planning our first trip home to BLT. I love planning trips :goodvibes

That is so funny, my DH does the same thing. I love the planning, it's half the fun for me, and he just accepts that, but I know not to push it on him. It's now our tradition to plan the next trip on the drive home from the current one. (Usually, this means that I brief him on the plans that I've already quietly made!) It doesn't impinge on our current trip, and yet it avoids the let-down phase. It also means that we can benefit from anything we've just learned (discovering new restaurants, etc.).

My question is this- we (my parents, DH and DD) are definitely going this Dec, my brother/his wife and his DD may be joining us should I try and book a larger villa just to get the reservation and keep my fingers crossed that they come with us or should I only book the room size I know we need for just my immediate group that has confirmed going? Thanks for your help!

In addition to banking/borrowing considerations, you don't want to be in the situation where you have reserved for one scenario, but if it changes, the accommodation size for the other scenario is unavailable. I *think* the best way to do this is to reserve a 2BR lock-off (if you have the points), and then if you have to take it down to a studio or 1BR, they can do it. Ask MS if this is the case. I think in most cases, dedicated or lock-off is a booking category, so make sure you get that when you reserve. If you get a dedicated 2BR, they can't break it down. I'm not sure about this, but it would be worth asking.

I love planning! Even for other people! Thank you, OP, for starting this thread so we can know others who understand!

A lock off two bedroom is booked as a two bedroom and doesn't become a 1 bedroom if you don't want/need the studio. If you think you may change, it's better to book a 1 bedroom and a studio, and then cancel the studio, you can do that. As far as getting them next to each other, if you do need both, well, that may be possible, but not likely.

Great ideas and suggestions, I really appreciate all your help!! Thanks to these boards and all of you I will be a pro at this in no time. Thanks again-

Ahh to be around those just like you...:flower3:

We are heading to the World:
April 19th-24th, 09 for my birthday at SSR using DP
Sept 26th-Oct3rd for MNSSHP at SSR using DP
Jan 7-10, 2010 for Marathon weekend at AKV (although not much planning here. Just running and going home)
July 18th-28th Disneymoon in 1b Savanna view and then Ocean view at Vero!!

The Disneymoon is my favorite. I always have tours and ADRs in mind. ;)
I am SOOO excited for the September trip too. Its funny organzing everything. I can actually book my Jan 10 vacation before Sept 09 because of the 11 month advantage I have at AKV. :rotfl2:

We usually have 2-3 trips on the books at any given time.

Too funny!! I've learned also not to push things on him. I did bring up the plans yesterday for our future trips, and i just briefly went over the dates to see if he thought he could get the time off. And then I just wait until our one trip is over before I discuss the next one...LOL again, like you...I brief him on the plans that I have already made...haha:rotfl2: :lmao: ;)

I am Anal Annie! Of COURSE I plan, plan, plan!!! :rolleyes2 Spreadsheet could be my middle name!

We just finished booking a week at BCV followed by 3 n at VB last week when they dropped this bomb about the new point charts. At the time we made our plans for 10 nights for THIS summer (and booked our airfare) we also mapped out 2 more trips that we wanted to book when our booking windows open. Planning ahead like this we can decide if we should buy AP's or 10 day non-expiring tickets. Now with these new charts, instead of still having points left to bank when we're done we will be short a few points and I don't know that I want to start borrowing just to do both of these other trips. We will have to decide if we want to borrow :sad2: or drop a night off one of the trips. But if we do THAT it means we won't get the most bang for our buck on our airfare...so the way we plan will be affected. But we will always have a Plan B waiting!

I have 2 plans in the works. Our first is our trip in June which will be the first time that DH stays at AKV. I took the girls there last October and now we can't wait to show him our new "home". Then, we get to do it again in April 2010 when we bring my parents along and show them AKV! They have never even seen the AKL so it will be a total surprise for them. DH and I ate at Boma and Jiko on our honeymoon in 2002 so DH has been to the AKL, but has never stayed there.

Although the June trip is less than 6 months away, I keep finding myself planning the April 2010 trip. I think I ran out of things to plan for the June trip:rotfl2: .

We have so many options to consider for the 2010 trip, now that DVC reallocated the points. We were going to do a 2BR for all 5 nights, but now, we have to split it up and do a 2BR for 3 nights and 2 studios for 2 nights. This is actually to our advantage. Since we're booking standard at AKV, we'll do the first two nights in Jambo studios. Then, we'll move to Kidani for the next 3 nights in a 2BR. My parents have rarely eaten at any TS restaurants (maybe 3 meals in 5 trips!) so I think we will add either the DxDDP or the basic DDP to the 2 nights in the studios. This way, mom and dad can enjoy some nice meals without the sticker shock! My dad said "NO WAY" when I showed him the menu for Jiko...maybe he'll rethink it if he knows that it is "prepaid".

Ahhh...back to the spreadsheets...my laughing place!:lmao:

Always. We usually have at least 2 trips in the pipe line and are always thinking ahed to the next. Right now we have Dec booked but not sure if we will keep it. We may do Sept instead.

I take care of all of the planning, but the reason we bought DVC is because both trips that we took before owning DVC, by the second day my DH and I were both saying... "The next time we come we have to..."

I also love helping others plan. My best friend had a horrible visit the first time they went (long story) so I spent several days helping them with a loose schedule and planning for ADRs for their April visit. Hopefully this time they will have such a good time they will join us as DVC members:thumbsup2

Since we often use World Passport exchanges, we are almost obligated to have a 1.5 to 2 year out planning timetable (you just don't get into the best properties unless you start the request process that early). My spouse took a while to get used to having to discuss potential future vacations while we had hadn't even reached an upcoming one, but they are catching on.

To make things even more complicated, we usually put in searches with MS for three to four different locations across 5-7 different dates. That results in continual, enjoyable discussions within the family about all the different places we might end up in the future. :grouphug: I now actually view that as one of the biggest unexpected benefits we've gotten out of our DVC membership.
