Anyone planning March Break 2008 yet?

How long is it safe to wait to book my hotels and flights. In previous years we've gone in regular or value season, so I could play around with the flights.

Has anyone experience any good deals on flights for March break in previous years?

I'd like to go West Jet because I have a $300 credit to use up by April 25 next year (invited a friend, who cancelled last minute, won't be bitten by that bug again). The prices on West Jets website are pretty high for that time right now. I was thinking of leaving on the Wednesday or Thursday before March break starts and coming back on the Friday.

Is it worth it to wait and see if there are any seat sales? Or is that a waste of time for that time of year?

Unfortunately, March Break is one of the pricest times of the year to fly to Florida. It is very rare to get a deal on flights or to see the price drop! In the last 30 years that we have been travelling during this time of year (teachers), it has been my personal experience that the earlier you book, i.e the day the flights are posted results in the best prices for flights. I usually book my accommodation in April, as soon as I return from our March break trip. We have started to fly from the US and even the US airlines tend to raise the price of fares during this time. They treat it like their President's week and Easter week and price it accordingly. My advice is to try to find a deal you can live with as soon as possible! WestJet flights are already outrageously priced for March Break because Easter is the next week. If you can fly from the US, try SouthWest or JetBlue as they will shortly post their March/April flights. Good Luck! It is a very expensive time of year to travel, right up there with Christmas. :sad2:

You can find deals to Orlando for March break but not from Pearson that's for sure. We booked with Southwest from Detroit last March (9th - 19th) direct flights each way and got it for $117.00US return including taxes or $545.00US for a family of 5. From Toronto it would have been $2900CAN.

Southwest flights are opening up on August 23rd for travel until March 7th as indicated on their website. I booked it the day it opened up which I think was in September for the one way flight down and then waited for the return flights to open up.
Good Luck!

I haven't booked anything yet because I don't know if the CAA deal is coming or not. Spoke to my TA the other day and the info won't come out until September. Will there be any flights opening then for March??? or anything left??? If the CAA deal is a no go this year then so are we:sad1:

Honestly, I highly doubt you will get a great deal with Westjet through CAA at that time of year because you can see that we saved about $2200CAN by flying out of Detroit last March even after you do the conversion to CAN dollars. The fares don't typically last that long and they are gone at the lowest fare especially for March because many Canadians fly out of either Detroit or Buffalo. You can see by the Park and Fly hotel deals that they are full of Ontario cars.

We are booked on Westjet leaving March 5 but we used airmiles. When I checked the prices a few weeks back, some came up as seat sale although they weren't much cheaper than the regular rate. When we go on March break, we always book very early, as soon as the flights come out. I have found that the rate we paid was usually the best deal for that time frame. You have more options out of Toronto--here in Cape Breton, we don't have the option of driving across the border for better prices.

Good luck planning!

We travel every March , and you have to book a deal WHEN YOU SEE IT...
We have already booked and payed for our first Cruise and a hotel room the night before.

We have booked a AAA rate / room only at POR for now for before the cruise, waiting on something better. Deals for Jan. to the first week in March have been released anytime between end of Oct. to mid Nov.( typically)
I'm patiently waiting to see what will be offered this year.
I have not seen an offer for our Canadian spring break. We always get the deals for the week before.

This past March( 2007) we booked our flights ( southwest) in Nov.(2006) and got a great deal for our family of 5.
Do not wait for a "DING " . There has not been one for the last two years for the SECOND week in March. We booked a "internet special" for $54. each way and got non stop flights.( hoping for a $35-$40 ding!!! that never came.)

For the last 5 years there has been something. First it was a "winter break"
room discount ( I can still see the snowball hitting the screen on the Disney website!!!)
and the last few years Disney has offered free upgrades on the tickets in a package *( Free hopper and water park added on to your tickets when you book a package deal).

Not sure if that will be the case this year.
If flights are not a good deal ( over $80 each way) we will drive .
But make sure to book when you see it. With the dollar
doing so well, I would be surprised to see alot of deals.
It's a very busy time in March , and you don't want rooms to be sold out...

The deal I'm waiting for is for the package with CAA that includes the tickets and the hotel only. The flights I've been watching the dings and waiting for March to show up. I will be flying out of Buffalo or Detroit.

Thanks for all of the responses, you confirmed what I already suspected. Unfortunately I can't fly out of Buffalo because I don't have a car to get me there.

I'm going to check out the car rental websites, and see if I can rent one and drop it off at Buffalo airport, but I think the chance is slim. I really want to make this trip happen. Just me and DS (13) this year. We usually go at off peak times but he doesn't want to miss too much school, how about that?

Hi Cheters Mom I'd go to travelalerts.ca or canoe.ca and have them send you anything that comes avaliable. I'm go March 9th-March 15th. I'm flying Delta -YYZ- MCO --good price through Itravel2000.com but I booked last April. ($297.00)
I also don't want to drive or ask family to drive me there (BUF),so flying out of Toronto is the only way for me.
Hope something comes avaliable for you .
Hugs Mel

I usually book my flights for March break in April! The flights fill up fast and the prices just keep on increasing! Call now and book immediately!

Can you tell me, did that price include taxes? If it that is a non stop return airfare including tax then you got a very good deal.

Hey WeeHaggis
Nope i have to transfer in Cinncinatti but only 50 minutes between flights so I still think it 's an ok price. It does include taxes actually I think the flight is only like 187.00 and the rest is tax--just printed it off the email today. Hope that clarifies it.

I think we booked our March Break 2007 SW flight near Cmas 2006.

BUF to MCO $54 each way
11 days car rental $250US
CAA rate took 20% off CBR
We had left over tickets.

Nice inexpensive trip! S
