Anyone planning a DCL med cruise?

I'll be astonished if Disney base the ship out of Southampton; you just couldn't offer decent 10 and 11-night cruises as it takes a full 3 days just to get into the Med (via the dreaded Bay!), and that's not practical unless you have 2 weeks or longer (or if you make it a one-way cruise; i.e. So'ton-Marseille and vice versa). Disney really want their guests to be able to take advantage of the ship from first minute to last, and that usually means round-trip cruises from somewhere warm and hospitable to start with.

Great article Mandy - thankyou!
Mind you I don`t think crossing the Bay of Biscay is a good idea :sad2:
It really isn't too bad, after all, P&O and Cunard ships do it all year round. the big disadvantage as Simon says is that it takes 3 days to get anywhere decent out of southampton, but the check in and sailing from process is fantastic, much much better than an airport!

We are interested in these cruises but only if the ports of call are good as previously mentioned. Not really intersted if it is Spain or France and rather hope it would go for Venice and the Adriatic that sounds good to me.
The thought of getting there in a couple of hours is very tempting and no jet lag on the return.

Wait with interest to hear what ports they are going to do if not it will probably be back across the pond again.

I`ve heard back from our TA at Dreams Unlimited and she says the itinarary will be released on the 21 st (as we know) and booking from the 4/4.
They think all cruises will be priced at premium season rates (gulp!) and cruises will alternate between 10 and 11 days. So we`ll see.

Thanks for the link Mandy :thumbsup2
No luck with my 6 numbers tonight so doesn't look like we'll be going :teeth:

Just my thoughts, I wouldnt want to cruise on a disney ship in Europe.
Firstly I like to cruise to their own private island Castawy Cay, and thats obviously not going to happen!
Secondly the price will be top wack. Ive spoken to Americans who are Ok to pay this as a "one off" holiday, however I think most normal people will be priced out.
Not really interested in many european ports, if I were, I would fly easy jet or cheap airline there and stay in a posh hotel.

Mainly, I think Disney ships should stay in america, I just dont think its the same anywhere else. Im not a fan of DLP, the service and CMs are just not the same IMHO.

Cant wait for Magic to come bak to USA for us to cruise 7 nights (Western) in Oct 2007.

I think it is wonderful that the ships are venturing further afield :)

Hi There,

Whilst I would love to go on a Disney Cruise anytime, I do agree with some of the DIS'ers that the Med might not appeal too all. For those that have not been it's an incredible experience. We shall have to wait for the announcement but I thought they mentioned Barcelona last time?

Watching for the itinerary announcement with interest, I like many of you feel that cruising the med wouldn't be quite the same but if the price is right a transatlantic crossing for repositioning would be very tempting!!!

So any takers on this after the announcement of itinerary. I was pleased with it and a little disappointed that Venice wasn't in the itinerary.

The repo would have been great but DH wouldn't agree to it because a) he knew that I'd go stir crazy with 5 straight days at sea and b) he also knew that if we did it there or back I'd want to do WDW before or after and that would really cut into his vacation time.

So we'll do the Med, I'm really excited because DH has cruised the Med with other lines before I came into his life but I never have and to be honest I don't think I'd ever get round to seeing these places in Italy or South of France or even Spain if it weren't for the fact that DCL was cruising there and I just LOVE the Magic.

I'm trying to ignore the price tag though and just thinking that we're better off than a lot of the other passengers because we won't have flown 9 hours to get there or have had to fork out for the Transatlantic flight, you know?

Anyway I was just wondering if any other UKers were going to go?

We are looking at going but firstly were more interested in the Repo cruise but the ports of call have certainly put us off that one.

Not very happy with the Itinerary though and thought Disney would have come up with something a bit more special.

Have been trying to find out about the Deposit and believe if you cancel you can get the deposit back or put against another cruise. Anyone know he facts on this. If we booked would not think about cancelling but who knows in the future.

Also will be looking at other cruise lines because th price we think is way up. We do love Disney and the way they do things but still think I would prefer a back to back from Florida - here I go dreaming again and only a fiver on the thunderball.

If you book cats 4-12 the deposit is fully refundable or can be used against a future cruise, as far as I am aware if you book cat 1-3 deposits are not refundable. Hope that helps.

well if the price was right this would be the cruise that would persuade DH to do DCL, he hates the long flight to USA, but I've got a feeling the price is going to be beyond us :guilty: Oh well, I'm just waiting for my quote to come back from DU,

Claire xx
