Anyone own a Yorkie?

I have Mickey who is 4 but am getting interested in owning (or learning more about owning) a Yorkie. I was divorced in November and want a little more company ~ however, I do not know how Mickey will react since he is an "only child".

Any advice or info?

I had Max until he died about 4 years ago... He was a great little dog. They can be very protective of thier "human". My nephew was very young when I had Max and he was never any problem around Jon...

Go for it....I want another one too!

Anyone know how they interact with other pets? Especially a cat?

We had a cat at the same time...You couldn't seperate the 2 of them....They even slept together.....

My daughter has a yorkie puppy named Gus. He is such a love. She has two cats and two other dogs and he gets along with them just fine. She even told me that one of her other dogs seems to have perked up since she got Gus.

I've had my yorkshire terrier for 12 years. He is about 16 years old. We bought home a little dog last Friday but our yorkie had a bad reaction to this other dog. He kept growling at the little guy.

A yorkie is a lap dog, he loves to be held and petted. Around here, he doesn't get much holding and attention and he seems to be okay with it. I think he is a cute dog.

That's Maggie, our Yorkie, down in my signature. She's a GREAT dog! We got her when she was a puppy...she'll be 4 next month.

She has NEVER met a stranger! She LOVES people! She gets so excited to see other people! She's a bit hyper at first, but she calms down quickly. She loves to be around us, but when she's sleepy and ready to call it a night, she'll just go in our bed (she sleeps w/ us). She stays in her kennel all day and it's not a problem. She definately thinks she's a big dog...I can't believe she hasn't broken a bone yet! She also very smart...too smart for her own good sometimes! She's a barker...but what little dog isn't? She does require regular grooming because of all that hair...but she doesn't shed, so that's a plus!

She's a little timid around other dogs. It took her a while to get used to our Corgi...we got him a little over a year ago. They get along fine now. They do get very jealous of each other and "fight" like brother and sister. They make us laugh all the time!

She's just a great little dog!!

Thanks for all your insight. I'm still on the fence about getting one so we'll see. I guess my real worry is how Mickey will react with a dog. He has never been around one and right now rules the roost so to speak, who am I kidding, he's king of the house. If I do get one, his name will be "Bubba". Thanks everyone and if you have any more helpful info please let me know.

My best advice would be to find a *reputable* breeder in the area and then arrange a visit with your dog and one of the breeder's on neutral territory. If your's is a male, a female would probably be best, and usually a puppy will be easier for an older dog to get used to. I work with rescue, and can tell you that it is doable, but will take patience on every one's(dog's) part! Good luck!

My partner and I have two Yorkies and a cat all living in the same house. They all get along just great!

My mom has a Yorkie-pom. She gets along okay with my dogs and cat.
