We have been thinking about getting a dog and doing some research for about 6 months now. The temperment of the poodle and maltese sounds like it would be a good match for us but I think I prefer the long shaggy hair vs. the long straight hair. Any have one, can you tell me what they are like and if you would recommend it.

(please don't debate purebred vs. designer vs. shelter)

My best friend has a Maltipoo and she LOVE's him. He is a hyper little fellow but he didnt take long to train and loves to be around my minnie doxie. The only thing he's got the long hair and he has to have a hair cut every 2 weeks or so.. it grows so fast it covers his eyes.

We have a 7 year old Maltese/Poodle mix.

She's a good dog, very smart and knows a lot of commands, BUT she has the worst allergies of any dog I have ever seen. She scratches and bites herself until she's bald and bleeding. We have tried almost everything to help her, but nothing has helped.

She follows me everywhere around the house. EVERYWHERE. I call her my shadow. She will even wait outside the bathroom door for me. It reminds me of the way my grandparents mini poodle acted.

Good luck with your decision!

We were also looking at the Malti-tzu. Does their hair grow as fast? I didn't know the malti-poo's hair would grow so fast. I had heard that when mixed with the poodle it slows down some.

I own something like that. LOL I am not sure what she is but she is my baby and a very sweet and wonderful dog. She gets her haircut every 6 weeks.

I had a multipoo as a kid/teen and he was a great dog. Fairly easy to train, not yappy like a lot of small dogs can be, and a very sweet, loyal family dog. Because of his size, he didn't require the exercise or space that bigger dogs usually need, so he was a perfect fit for our busy suburban family.

As far as down sides - He didn't do well with changes in setting - he'd refuse to eat when kenneled and when I moved out I wanted to take him, but he couldn't adjust to life away from his familiar home and my mom. And he did need frequent grooming or his fur would get tangled and matted.

Well my friend takes her's every couple weeks to get him trimed. She likes him to be presentable. But he's pretty furry , when it covers his eyes it makes him look funny.

My maltipoo's hair grows to a certain point (maybe 3" long) and then stops.

She does get knots and tangles if she's not combed.
