I have one quick question. Is it like the Toyota FJ Cruiser in that you can't open the back door without the front door being opened?

TIA!

Yes, we have a Honda Element and it does have those weird doors on the side. You have to open the front doors to get out of the back seat.

Darn!

Thanks for the info.

Just jumping in, since my DH is in love with this car and wants to get one. Other thoughts on it? Are you happy with it? Things I should look out for (esp. w/ two in carseats on the way?) We probably wouldn't get it until early next year, but I thought I'd take advantage of this thread!

Well, our 2008 Element is my husband's car. I've only driven it 4 times. It has a weird, boxy feel inside and a kind of stiff ride. What you would expect from a car shaped that way!

Inside, the car is INCREDIBLY room. The backseat is elevated higher than the front seats and kids just love riding in the backseat. It does only seat 4 passengers--there is third seatbelt in the back seat in case you have to travel with 5. My kids are much older now, no more carting friends around, so we didn't care.

Overall, we love the car.

I'm bummed about the door issue. If I drop my kids somewhere it means I'd have to open MY door so they could get out. Bummer.

Yep, but overall it's not a huge deal. Just takes some getting used to. If you really love the vehicle, I would not let that be a dealbreaker.

Do you know have many miles per gallon it gets?

My husband is getting approximately 24 mpg commuting. Now, he's not sitting in traffic. He takes a straight shot into DC each morning at around 65 mph. On weekends he does short trips around the area.
