My DH is looking for at a Ford Ranger. I have been told Ford trucks are not that great.
Anyone out there that owns one?

Thanks..

My husband used to own one. He had lots and lots of trouble out of it. When we sold it the transmission and engine needed to be replaced. He had it in the shop numerous times.

Currently I own a Ford. I always said that I would never buy one because of their bad reputation. When I bought this car I should have remembered that. But I needed a car REAL BAD. We have had several problems out of our car and Ford has not been very cooperative in making the repairs. The last problem only took them 8 months to agree to correct!

I'm sure there are others who like Ford, but I don't.

Chell,
thanks for the info! I did not want him to buy it anyway. This helps cement my case.
We are looking for a truck for him, so our daughter can have our car.
Made sense when we started looking, now I am sorry we even started! It is hard to find a decent used truck.
Oh well!

Okay....I'll go the other way.
DH has a 1998 Ranger.
He drives over 100 miles a day to work and back. Never had one problem with it in all this time :)

I have a 1991 Aerostar van (built on a truck chasis). It has over 180,000 miles on it. Never a problem! Just the usual type age-related maintence.

I guess you just never know. We've had great luck with all our Fords.

My SIL used to drive a Ford Ranger, she used to have to turn off the A/C in order to have enough pick up power just to get on the Highway!

I personally don't like Fords. But that's just MHO.

I'll warn you-I'm a big fan of Ford Rangers. Last year for Christmas, we bought DS#1 one with almost 100,000 miles on it, "just to get him to graduation" which is now in 6 months. Well, he loves it and has no intention of getting rid of it when he graduates. Never had any trouble, only money spent has been his choice (such as fog lamps, toolbox, etc.) So this past summer we bought DS#2 one also. So far-the same-no problems!

DH has a Ranger. We don't have any complaints, but it's a 2001 with 17,000 miles on it, so it obviously hasn't even had the chance to break down yet. I think that they do come with different engine types/sizes, though, because ours has plenty of power. It actually has a better engine than the Explorer we used to drive.

we live in maine mind ya....so all Mainers have trucks....ours is a 4x4 and it has plenty of get up and go.....we love it and it loves us...husband drives 80 miles a day ......and loves it......we were looking at a new one.....but will probably buy a car and keep this one....it is a great vehicle....

Thanks for the help everyone. Like I said, he is looking for something to replace the car so our DD can have it.

We are still looking. May look at some used ones also.

I am not a big fan of Fords myself. We do have a Ford Contour, it is serving us well. Now about that Aerostar....we had one and I hated it!!! Never again!
We now own a Toyota Sienna....love it!
I love the way it handles, sounds and love the sound system!

But, we just need to find something to help our daughter out. (and let my husband have some fun going to get mulch, wood, etc)!

Thanks

We have had 2 Rangers, and never had a problem with either of them. My husband misses his now that he drives a car. I will agree though, that the acceleration is a little lacking LOL.

I've had some experience with Ford trucks. I've had 4, all bought new.

1. 1991 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 Ext. Cab. Had that for 2.5 years. Only traded to get a larger truck to get 2 car seats in for the kids. Neat little truck with a V6 that I towed my 17' boat with. Only had regular maint expense with.

2. 1993 Ford F-150 XLT 4X4 Ext. Cab. Had it for 5 years with only maint expences. 5.0 liter V8 that I towed my 21' boat with.

3. 1999 Ford F-250 Lariet 4X4 Ext Cab. Had that for 4 years. 6.8 liter V10 that I towed my 25' boat with. Only maint expense with.

4. 2002 Ford F-150 Supercrew that I've had for 3 months. Nothing has gone wrong, but only 1800 miles on this one. 5.4 liter V8 in this one. No boats anymore to tow. I spent all my spare cash on DVC!.

Before the Fords I had a GMC and a Chevy truck. Must be me, but only had regular maint. expenses with those also although I did crash the GMC. But I do make sure that maintenance is done regular on all my vehicles and do not over stress them. I just make sure they are set up right.
