And if an example is not drinking, well, there's nothing wrong with that, is there?

IMO, Nope.

I would think women especially need extra dairy.

Well I think they need extra calcium, but not necessarily dairy. DW doesn't drink milk, but eats a lot of cheese......dunno....I'll ask.....

::yes:: Never have had a drink and don't plan to start now. :p I know I'm in the minority and that doesn't bother me. Every couple of years, my high school students will ask me whether I drink. They're always shocked when the answer is no. "Never???" I tell them it's just a choice, like any other behavior.

And I love skim milk. My doctor has given it the thumbs up and that's good enough for me.

I dont drink at all. I made the desicion very young and I never changed my mind. I serve others though..no problem with that.:D

Well, I'd just like to say that I got that really wild stage out of my system during my teen years.:D I never drink to excess now.

I always post that in the hopes that someone else may be inspired to calm down.:sunny:

Ditto to that! :teeth: Now I might have a drink once a year. Alcohol messes my sinuses up and even one drink gives me the worst hangover type headache.

The only thing I really enjoy is an ice cold beer on a really hot day. Sam Adams is my current favorite.

We both drink alcohol, never to excess. In my house growing up my parents and other adults in the family had wine with our dinner, for us its usually just on Sundays but ocassionally during the week I'll have a glass or two. I think my parents sort of took away the "forbidden fruit" factor, and as a result I can say that I never went the way of many of my peers by going out and getting trashed. My kids have been raised the same way. They understand that alcohol is something that responsible adults drink in moderation. Its our opinion that when you start making it forbidden and shunned, it becomes that more appealing to the child.

Ditto here. My parents never made an issue of alcohol and my mom doesn't even drink, dad did on occassion...it never was a forbidden fruit. Even though I did indulge quite a bit in college...never to the point of 'plastered.' As far as my DD is concerned she too came home w/ the dare program from school and why did we drink (maybe 1 or 2 drinks a week sometimes only 1 or 2 a month, usually with dinner or with friends) and wasn't it bad etc..etc... I explained alcohol isn't bad, only when consumed to excess is it bad (just like food!).... And alcohol can have may benefital factors in moderation.

Afterward, she was asking if it seemed hypocritical that her school (private parochial school) tells kids not to drink, then hosts a "beer tent" on school grounds during their annual fall fund-raising festival. And we felt hypocritical telling Jennifer not to drink, while we also had alcohol.

I think there are many things kids can't do that parents can... like drive, vote, drink and even swear on occassion

. I tell her when she becomes an adult she can make those decisions for herself. Of course that's how I was raised so I guess I'm just passing the disfunction along!
