Anyone out there like us?

I have to admit, sometimes boards can get a little (okay maybe more than a little) intimidating when you're not like the majority. You see, we're Florida residents and not Annual Passholders. We're lucky enough to be able to secure a Florida Resident Play 3 day pass every couple of years, and not really able to stay onsite. When planning the trips, I admit I feel a little intimidated because I have to wheedle out the "Leave the park in the middle of the day going back to the hotel" advice, and a lot of the dining (we're lucky enough to do 2 PS's this time since it's for my and my brother's birthday), and I have to cringe a little when people suggest resort type activities for us because we don't stay at the resorts.

I guess I'm just curious if there's anyone out there like us, who doesn't have the luxury of staying onsite, who doesn't have the luxury of going a lot because they have APs, and who might be able to relate...

DOn't feel bad at all! I stayed on site this year for the 1st time, and only b/c there was a special rate of $79/night for the value resorts (this time it was actually cheaper to stay onsite!!!). Otherwise we would have stayed off site. You can still have just as good of a time staying offsite. SInce it is hard to go back and forth in the middle of the day, we often either stayed by the pool in the AM and went to the parks after lunch, or went first thing and came back by dinner time, and then maybe to Downtown Disney, or back in the pool! And I never had an AP, we've gone the past 2 years but usually it's every other year at best. You're not alone!!

You can do some of the resort activities even if you don't stay onsite. Just resort hopping to check out the theming can be fun, free entertainment!

I have not stayed onsite... yet. We are staying off-site again this summer and I plan to take a long lunch so the kids can "rest" as well as rent a stroller to help out their little legs. You are not alone!

Dementia, you might consider taking advantage of the $49 Pop Century or All Star Florida Resident rates when they come out.

We stayed on site is Septmeber of 2001, (yes right after the 9/11 tragedy). We also went off site this past November. To be honest, my family enjoyed off site better. We are not going back unitll 2006 and have already decided to stay off site again. We enjoyed the resort where we had stayed and loved the convenience of a full kitchen and washer and dryer. I know many will state the Disney magic of a resort, We just felt the magic through our trip because that is why we were there. I just think it is a matter of opinion.
I think it is great if people have the resourses to go as much as they want to! My family is not in that situation at this time. No big deal!
As for PS, we only did one and that was in 2001. Now our upcoming 2006 trip DD wants to do CRT. That will probably be the only one. DD will be 13 so we are not a family of little ones that truely enjoy the PS's.
Different people, different choices, etc.

Dementia, you might consider taking advantage of the $49 Pop Century or All Star Florida Resident rates when they come out.

We did do that last year when we went to MGM for the day (we could really only afford to do one day when we stayed onsite). To be perfectly honest, and this is even a bit embarrassing to admit, actually, my BF's parents own a timeshare that we get access to every 2 years. They have been very gracious, and w/o their generosity we wouldn't be able to go at all. So even the $49 a night, well, it's a maybe, but kind of a longshot.

We thoroughly enjoy Disney regardless of when we get to go. Even with my "commando" planning, believe me, no one is more grateful when they see the castle but us (Heck, I've even gotten new Minnie ears and a couple of new tank tops to go for this trip!).

That's not embarrasing-that's a smart use of available resources. I would do that too if it was available.
