Anyone out there in the car repair business????

Just wondered how long it should normally take to fix a torn out steering column/ignition thingie. My truck was almost stolen 2 weeks ago tomorrow afternoon. I ended up having it towed to a local shop by my house....don't ask me why I didn't take it to a dealer.....I was just totally shook up about it all and didn't even think about it....plus it was about 4:30 and for some reason I kept thinking it was a Friday and not Thursday that day.

Anyway....it is STILL in the shop. The first steering column thingie they got was boxed wrong and when they went to reorder it...it was on backorder....they just got it in the beginning of this week.

Today they call me and say they have to have someone come in to "code" the key....and they are going to "shoot" for having it ready tomorrow!!!

One good thing.....I found out (since my keys were taken from the truck....it was in my original post).........they wouldn't be able to start my truck with the key they have...if they still have it.....so that was kinda of a relief.....

I could have rented a car (ins pays 80%) if I knew it would take this long.....they are going to pay me 10 bucks a day now since I didn't rent a car....which I guess is still good....but I tell you.....it really is a pain to be without a car!!!!!!! Figuring out how to get to work, drop the kids off at my moms (I work PT)......

I guess I just needed to vent......thanks!!!!!!

I work for a used car dealer and getting the right parts can be a real pain sometimes.
The parts get boxed wrong or someone transposes a couple of numbers and so on..
As far as coding the key, what it sounds like is the passive anti-theft system needs to be reprogramed becouse of the new key which has a transponder in it and without the proper coding the vehicle won't run.
