I want to go to the luau dinner show at the Poly. I was just playing around with dates & there is availability for the date I put in.

What is the cancellation policy? If I book it & then decide not to go......can I cancel without penalty? If so, could I potentially book 2 different nights and decide later which one to go with?

I believe your cc is charged (funds held). Most likely you have a 48 hour cancellation notice, but cannot verify. It might be best to phone in dining reservation date for one of the dates, and ask about cancellation policy. Each dining policy is or could be different for each restaurant.

You give your CC info when you book your ressie, but it is not charged. They will only charge if you don't cancel or just don't show up. I believe the cancellation is 48 hrs. prior, not to certain on that part. You can make two different ressie's, just remember to cancel one if not going.

I booked my reservation today.

My CC was charged and the funds were taken out of the account. The cancellation policy is as follows (verbatim): There is a 1 day cancellation policy. Full price will be charged / forfeited if Guest cancels within 1 day or no shows for the reservation.

Hope that helps.

Some reservations (Usually those with a show) are a "Prepayment" and as such are changed in advance
This info is in the "Know Before you go" Section.

  • Advance reservations are highly recommended and can be made up to 180 days prior to your visit. You can book your reservation online on this page or by calling (407) WDW-DINE or (407) 939-3463.
  • Prepayment is required. Cancellations may result in charges if made with insufficient notice. Specific policies will be detailed at time of reservation booking.
  • Tickets are available for pickup immediately after reservation has been confirmed online. Tickets may be picked up at any Walt Disney World Resort Concierge desk, or upon arrival at the Luau check-in desk in the main Lobby of the Great Ceremonial House. For same-day pickup, please arrive at the box office 30 minutes prior to your show time.
  • Celebrations can be acknowledged during the show. Specialty celebration cakes are available for an additional charge and should be ordered 48 hours in advance by calling (407) 827-2253.
  • This show takes place in a non-smoking outdoor environment. Some Category 2 and 3 seats require a short walk up stairs.
  • This location can accommodate most special dietary needs. Advance notice may be required and cancellation fees may apply. Please indicate any special dietary needs at time of reservation booking. Learn more about how we can help accommodate special dietary needs.

Moreover because the cancellation policy is not detailed until "Time of reservation booking" your cancellation policy may be different then another person's cancellation policy. (it could be a factor of crowds or something else).

I doubt it's a crowd-issue as the policy I cited came from the email that they sent me. So, I don't see why telling OP that the cancellation policy would be different to someone else's makes any sense since it's the same show.

Right! The cancellation policy came from the Email you received AFTER you made the reservation.

The "Know before you go" information states about cancellation that the "Specific policies will be detailed at time of reservation booking." This indicates to me, that the policy is NOT a fixed standard policy, otherwise why wouldn't they state it in advance. So to state that it's always 1 day cancellation because that's what you got is not accurate either. It happens to be the policy that was in force when you got your tickets. It COULD change for someone else at a different show. That is all I was saying.

My reference to a "Crowd" was just a possible example of why it could be different. I did not tell the OP that it WOULD be different. In all likelihood, it would probably also be a 1 day cancellation but again, it might not be (according to the know before you go section).
