Just wondering if there is anyone out there that has been or will be going to WDW and is on Weight Watchers? If so, how are you going to calculate your points?

I went to WW a few months ago while counting my WW points.

I first gave myself some "slack" otherwise I'd pig out and just say forget it. So, I ate at the top end of my point range. (With all that walking it probably wasn't that far off) I would normally eat melon or berries for breakfast with milk. I like milk and this was the easiest way to get the milk serving in. For lunch I'd eat a salad or a grilled chicken sandwich and 1/2 of the bun. For a afternoon snack I'd eat fruit or a sugar free frozen bar. At dinner I'd eat grilled fish, tuna or shrimp.

I gave myself some leeway. If you start feeling deprived before you know if you'll be over at 50sPT ordering one of those smores!!

I told myself: No french fries. 2 waters a day.(60 oz) A little taste is better than feeling deprived and then losing control.

It won't be as difficult as you may think. There's lots of places to get cold, fresh melon or grapes.

Thanks for the information. Like you said, it shouldn't be too hard.

I guess I'm bad....I'm on WW now trying to lose baby weight (ugh! - he's almost one and I still have it!) and I'm planning on getting the gym membership at the WL while we're there and NOT counting points. There are too many goodies that my family and I MUST have while at WDW and to think about points - well to me, that's no fun on vacation.

BUT, I sooooooo admire anyone that stays on program. Wow! That is motivation! I know I will gain some weight while at WDW - but I'm hopeful that I'll get it off once I'm home again.

Good luck to everyone!

i wore my pedometer while at wdw in june and was amazed we had walked 15 miles and had taken 81k steps. i think just by wearing this little gizmo, i was able to stay on track much better. also, if you bite it, you write it. i carried my journal diary w/me and **did**write down everything; that will make you stop and think do i really want this?! good luck! :p

I did NOT count points, but I gave a lot of thought to what I was going to eat at each meal. I did a combination of splurges and really healthy meals. I also ate breakfast in the room every morning -- apple bran muffins (the recipe you get the first week) or trail mix bars and fruit -- so I knew I started the day with a low points meal. The only meal I totally pigged out on was Boma dinner. Other than Boma, I didn't order any desserts but had a couple of bites of my dh's here and there. I even gave him most of the creme brulee that came with my meal at Chefs de France. I also went easy on snacks -- had a couple, though, because I really wanted them. I did not feel deprived, but definitely made better decisions about food than I did last year.

I thought I would be OK doing this since I was getting lots of exercise and drinking lots of water. Did it work? Disney was the first week of a two-week vacation (the other was at the beach), and I lost 1.5 pounds the next week at WW. WW veterans will tell you that you should also be concerned about the next week b/c sometimes it takes a while for weight to show up -- I lost even more that week!

That is so great! I can only hope to do the same. I met my goal weight in September. I began the program last February and by Sept. I have hit my goal weight and lost 27 pounds. I have sort of maintained the loss for the past year ( I gained back 5 pounds). But I have had a lot of stressful things happen, but I still try to stay on program.

I will most likely be on WW still in November. Just started WW not long ago. However, I have decided that I am not going to worry about points the entire week I'm there. I will be extra good the week before and extra extra extra good the weeks following. If I gain weight so be it but just remember to get back on track afterward. I know I'm not doing the proper thing but I want to totally enjoy my vacation so to heck with it.

I'm the same exact way on vacation. I don't count points on vacation so I guess I also take a vacation from WW!! The last vacation we had I gained a few pounds while away and then lost it all and then some the following week. I made the decision not to feel guilty about it and just enjoy it and I'm happy I did. This way I was enjoying what I was eating and not beating myself up about it. I'm planning to do the same on our Oct. WDW trip.

Two years ago I went on program and actually lost two pounds to put me over the 30 pound hump. I didn't count points. I did, though have my usual home breakfast of raisin bran everyday except when we went out, which was only once, I think.

When we ate buffets: Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's, I always had a big plate of salad and/or fruit first. I tried to take just really little porttions of high point fare like lasagne.

For desserts, I only ordered one at Restaurant Marakesh, ate the whole thing and savored every bite! Otherwise, I tried to stick to just one bite of sweets when the menu was prix fixed.

With all the walking you'll do, the water you'll need, and ahem the sweating, you'll probably be fine with some common sense.

(It probably didn't hurt to be pushing a double stroller full of fifty or so pounds of preschoolers, either.)

Have a wonderful trip!

Hi poppee1! Yes. I will be there in December. I lost 40 lbs with WW & have been on maintenance for 1 1/2 years. I will not be counting points when I am there, but will be watching what I eat. I will bring my 2 pt breakfast bars and will stop by the grocery store on my way from the airport to pick up some appropriate snacks. I won't be eating any cheeseburgers or anything. But I am sure I can find plenty of fruit and salads. And with all the restaurant choices, I don't think I will have any trouble finding delicious fish and/or chicken to eat either. And with all that walking......

If you want to count your points, you will probably have to eyeball it like at many restaurants. Bring your Book #1 with you and look up stuff that you need to. Or maybe a cheat sheet if you don't want to bring the whole book. Also, I don't see any problem with you asking for steamed vegetables, or asking them to prepare your meal a little "special" so that you can stay on plan. This may not work at the counter restaurants, but I don't see why it should not work at the sit downs. From everything I've read on the boards, they really try & please their guests at WDW!!

And if you go off plan while you are there, don't beat yourself up. Start fresh with the very next meal/day and keep a positive attitude. :sunny: Without the positive attitude, you won't lose weight & you won't enjoy your vacation.

Oh, my goodness. I hope I don't sound like an info-mercial or anything. I just love the plan & want to encourage others.

OOPS! "Without the positive attitude, you won't .lose weight & you won't enjoy your vacation." I meant "maintain" your weight, as you too are on maintenance.

Thanks for the boost. You don't sound like an info-mercial, you actually sound like my leader at WW. You might want to consider doing that!

Wow you guys are so good to keep up the maintenance. I was thinking about joining before my trip next May. My DH, myself and my DD just planned a last minute trip to WDW form 8/8 to 8/17. I am currently eating healthy and exercising to prepare for the oppressive heat in the summer time in Orlando. We plan to take it easy and not overdue it we are not going commando on the parks.

I have been wanting to take a pedometer to see how much walking we do. That is a great idea.

motaei, I am from the bay area also (Millbrae) where are you from?

Congratulations all of you for showing so much self discipline.

MandaMom

poppee1 - I'm glad you got a boost. I've thought about being a leader (I have a great one!). However, I already have 2 kids & run my own business (as well as DD's Brownie Troop Leader), so there's no time left!! However, if I ever need a part time idea, it will be a serious consideration. Thanks for the compliment!

MandaMom - I'm at the bottom of the *****ula in Los Altos. In regards to WW, I have to admit that I need to keep going to meetings rather regularly to keep me on track, but since they are free..... It does take up time, but it's well worth the investment to keep my new clothes!! :bounce:

MandaMom - Wow! They really do sensor here. I guess I misspelled "peninsula". OOPS! :o

I should still be on WW when we go in December and because I hope to be close to one-derland by then I will have some extra motivation to do well.

My current plan is not to count points (it is vacation after all) but to eat sensibly. In the past even when I was not watching what I ate I still ended up losing weight because of all the walking, water drinking and sweating! ;) I plan on being sensible with breakfast, drinking tons of water (I plan on knowing each and every bathroom at WDW personally ;) ) and not snacking (ok maybe one Mickey bar). At lunch/dinner I will avoid counter service fries/burgers, etc and try to stick with grilled chicken/salads but for sit-down places I will let myself order what I want. I usually am so hot and tired that nothing too heavy sounds good anyway but if it does I will order it and deal with any consequences when I get home.

My plan is probably not ideal but based on my past experiences I think it is very livable.

I did have a question about the pedometers. I always thought about getting one but I guess my ignorance about how they work is going to show here. Doesn't the movement on the rides cause problems with getting inaccurate results?

Hi Poppee1!
Yes, I have been to WDW twice while doing WW. I have been OP for almost 3 years and maintaining my goal weight, having lost 70 pounds for almost 2. I don't gain weight at WDW, so it is certainly doable.

I don't look at vacations as a time to go off plan. I do journal (I have a journal on my Palm). But since I don't have the points available for all the restaurants, I guesstimate most things. I just make sure that I pick healthy choices. Every park has a fruit stand for snacking, and most restaurants have salads. I do get the entrees, but the salads bulk up the meal so I eat less of the entree. Sometimes I split the entree with one of my daughters. I do take my favorite fat free dressing in plastic bottles as well. All of the restaurants were very accomodating as well. More than once they substituted a vegetable or fruit for fries.

I also didn't deprive myself. I had one Goofy bar (my favorite :Pinkbounc ) and more than one Mickey bar. Just make sure you enjoy that Mickey bar. Don't eat it while walking from place to place. Sit down and really enjoy it!

You do alot of walking in WDW. But I also managed to keep up my running schedule as well. I ran a few miles most days around the lake at the Carribean Beach.

And drink lots of water! I typically drink at least 16 glasses of water a day (need to replace the water from sweating when I run) and I found that without the extra weight and sufficient hydrating, I barely broke a sweat in 2 August vists compared to a September pre-WW visit!
