I feel like such a pig right now. I went from 140 to 120 (finally) it took me a good 6 months... going from 125 to 120 took awhile. This was in January. In March I was still in the 120-125 range. It's August now. I was neglecting my body and I'm at about 141. I feel so sick with myself. I was doing so well. I'm only 25 and I have no energy, all my cute clothes dont fit me anymore, I am depressed.

So I see this South beach diet... looks pretty good and easy to follow... it says you dont have to exersize...but we all know that simply isnt true. So I plan on doing this diet and exersizing.

I also hope to get pregnant soon... I dont want to be 140+ when I do get preggo... last time I gained 41 pounds!!! YIKES!

Any tips on this diet? Anyone had luck... any stories?

I'm new to this board but I'll be around alot more often now :)

first of all I'd just like to say that weighing 140 pounds does not make you a pig, or quite frankly depending on your height you may not even be over your healthy weight range.

The South Beach Diet is actually a pretty healthy diet, b/c it focuses on eating good fats and good carbs instead of eliminating all of one or the other. I believe it also has an induction period, but I think it would be easier to eat the way of the SBD for life. I know several people on another board I go to doing it and they really like it.

For what it's worth my goal weight is 145 and I now weigh 214, I had a baby last September, the day I gave birth I weighed 245, I have 9 left til I get to 205 my pre pregnancy weight, but I feel good about myself at any weight. Being over weight may change the way you look but it does not change who you are.

You are a wonderful, special person whether you weigh 300 pounds or 120! Please dont let weight make you feel awful.

Oh and welcome!

Just noticed.. SEMPER FI!! I'm the pround wife a United States Marine OOH RAH!

Thank you califred. I think SBD for life is probably a good choice.

I also realize I am in my weight zone. But I am not one bit thrilled with my weight. I am an unhappy person because of it. I am 5'5. I carry all my weight in my hips and lower abdomen. it's icky to me and I have no energy. I have a VERY active 4 yr old, a very active husband... and then theres me. I get winded easily, I'm always too tired to dso anything... this is effecting my life in more ways than just aesthetically...

Why cant some of it go to my chest???:( :o ;) lol

Im also 5'5, but I look dead under 135, 145-150 is much more realistic for me (forgot that part the first time), and the HWR for our height is 120-150.

Hey Men like curves :)... I know I wish mine would all move up a bit higher myself... But I like to remember my body grew my two wonderful children and the curves are from them....

Im sure you look FANTASTIC by the way :)...

If you decide to do the SBD, please read the WHOLE book first before you start, it will make it easier plus give you more knowledge about your body and how it works.

DH & I are doing So.Beach together. Before starting So.Beach, I lost about 50 lbs. on my own., using a food dairy. I started around 220, the highest weight I have ever been. That was a year ago & i had happily plateaued at around 175. DH didn't join me on my first diet, but he need to lose weight & lower his chlorest. When we started Phase 1 of So.Beach, he lost much more rapidly than I did & I think his results are more visible. But I have lost another 10 lbs. or so & I think I've lost a few inches, (As you can see, I'm not much into measurement.) My point is that results vary & I think that smaller loss goals go alittle longer. Good luck on So.Beach. We've found the diet to be workable, although we both really miss pasta. We're off to WDW, so we're putting the diet's flexibilty to a tough test.
PS. I think So.Beach really hurts itself by suggesting that no exercise is necessary. We all should be more active & I think DH has benefitted as much from increased exercise as from the diet. I has been actively exercising for over a yr. & now think of exercise as a normal part of my everyday.

After reading your post I was just wondering if you have ever had your blood pressure checked recently? I wasn't to terribly overweight in fact I was right where I should be and the symtoms of not having any energy and shortness of breath was due to my blood pressure being very high. So now I am on medication and I feel so much better. So this might be a reason for the way you are feeling.

Hi all I'm new to this part of the boards but was looking for info about he SBD when I saw this thread and had to add my .02 worth about what preshi said "I get winded easily, I'm always too tired to dso anything" I had the exact same problem and my Mom suggested I have my thyroid checked and sure enough I have hypothroidism. http://my.webmd.com/content/healthwise/33/8253
Within a month of taking medication I had lost 10 pounds and had so much more energy. It may not be what's ailing you but it's worth checking. It's a simple blood test.

Hope I didn't offend :-)

Hello. :D I was wondering if maybe since you are at your ideal weight already, that maybe if you began taking a vitamin, exercising, drinking more water and just eating "healthy" if it would help you have more energy? It doesn't really seem that you "need" to lose weight, it seems more like you need to live more healthfully to have more energy. I know having a family can drain you! LOL. Whatever road you choose to go down, I wish you well!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I've been doing SB for about 5 weeks. I was within my BMI (weight zone), but just barely.:D I wanted to lose enough to be in the middle of that range. I know what you mean about not being happy with your weight. I feel better and have more energy when I'm at mid-range.

I've found SB easy to follow. I do exercise 4x a week. I have been doing it for years! Put on weight anyways! I love middle age. Since starting SB I've lost 12 lbs., 6 more until goal!

I found this site has alot of info. on SB Link

Good Luck!:D

I was also searching for SB info and ran across this thread. I want to add that like Preshi I carry my weight in my abdomen. I have always needed to be at the lower end of my weight category to be at a good weight. When I was younger my arms and legs remained skinny no matter what I did, but there's a point where having 20 extra pounds stuck on your stomach is really noticable! I always weighed less than most of my friends, but wore a much bigger size. Weight is not the only issue! I'm 5'5" and at age 25 I weighed between 120 -125 and wore a size 11 - not exactly emaciated!

Go for it Preshi - I admire your effort to keep your weight under control now. It only gets harder as you age IMO!

The South Beach diet sounds a lot like the 40-30-30 plan that I was on (40% carbs, 30% protein & 30% fat) They had you eating low-glycemic vegetables and high-fiber breads/grains. I liked it but apparantly wasn't following it very closely - I didn't lose weight. It is an eating program that is very sensible and will probably work for most people.
