Anyone NOT tip Mousekeeping?

I always want to, but never really give them a chance.

It's because when I do go, I almost always never clean it and leave one big mess. I'm not joking either, I throw my dirty clothes on the floor and make a pile. I just leave my suitcase open, with the clothes sticking out of it. My bed is always a mess, it's just one big pigsty.

It's not that I don't trust them, it's just that I don't want anyone cleaning my mess. It would probably take them at least 15-30 minutes to clean the mess I make, no way is that worth $3-$5 tip! Plus, Disney World is a lot of money.. so I try to keep all the money I can save!

Mousekeeping isn't required to clean up your personal mess- just the room!!

They are correct, housekeeping is not a tipped position according to Disney. Most non-diser people I know do not tip.

You can ask the manager at your resort during your stay. They will tell you what are tipped positions and what are not.

P.S. I find it so amusing that so many disers are adament about tipping housekeeping but NOT tipping the ME bus driver. If you read the BIG sign at the front of the bus when you board, it says tips are welcome and appreaciated. (There are many posts on the transportation board as to how people don't tip ME drivers unless they do a special service for them. Otherwise, they are mearly "doing their job.")

I have seen it written a few times the tipping positions at WDW and Mousekeeping is not one of them.
In fact I have been told that MANY people do not tip. I don't know if this is true or not but that is what I have been told.

We enjoy making the envelopes and leaving a tip.. but I think it is more fun for us than anything. Also.... When tipping remember that you only have to leave what you want to leave. It does NOT have to be a dollar per person. It's a tip... not a fee

SO don't feel bad... just have fun!!!!!!!

We also don't use housekeeping during our trips (but we do enjoy the bag of towels on the door when we return). Having said that, we always leave a tip, usually about two to four dollars a day (we leave it at the end of the trip). Something does concern me though - last year the company that picks up the luggage for the Disney's Magical Express came to our room and took the tip that we left for housekeeping. We know this because as we saw them going into the room my mom decided to return to put her jacket in one of the suitcases and saw that the money was missing from the table. We questioned them but they denied seeing any money, when we told management we were informed that they aren't managed by Disney and there is nothing that can be done. I wish there was a secure way to leave tips for the housekeeping staff...

I left 2 dollars on our bed (in an envelope that said mousekeeper) everyday on our last trip. The maid never took it. After three days of this, I just gave up. I don't know if she thought I was cheap or just couldn't read...lol.

To the OP, I wouldn't worry about not tipping. Go and enjoy your trip and have your room cleaned too!

We don't tip. I have never considered tipping housekeeping ANYWHERE we ever stay. Never even occured to me as something to do. When I first got on here at the DIS, I saw something about tipping Mousekeeping and thought "What???" I thought OK, maybe I will if that seems to be the "standard", but DH put a stop to that. Now I know that even though it seems a lot of Disers tip, I think the majority of guests don't. That's just my opinion though.

Oh - and tipping doesn't have any effect on whether you get towel animals. We have three - two of them from different days on the same trip.

Seriously. Not meant to be mean, I never even thought about it. (we don't travel much-like EVER ) It's just this is a once in a lifetime trip for us, and we're really tight right now. (penny pinching) Never thought I'd be leaving $5 day for Mousekeeping on top. Is this the norm, to tip? (don't want Mousekeeping to do terrible stuff while we're away during the day BECAUSE we never tipped!)





I'm really not a horrible person. Just broke that's all....

We do tip...now how much depends on the type of service we got...one day (after tipping a few dollars for 3 days) we got NOTHING no new towel, tp, no NOTHING....so we tipped NOTHING. The next day we had new everything & 3 towel animals, resumed tipping that day & the rest of the trip was fine. we always save our loose change from the day & leave it in a cup for the mousekeepers.

Maybe she couldn't read English. Many of the mousekeepers are Hispanic and speak little to no English and probably read even less.

If she could read it she probably just didn't want a tip so didn't take it.

Here's my take on it. If you don't want to tip Mousekeeping because you feel that it is already a tipped position that's one thing. If you don't want to tip because you are cheap and pinching pennies even though you think you should, then you're cheating the Mousekeepers.

We usually tip $1 per person per day.

We tip, pretty minimally. There are 3 of us, and I leave $2.00/day. But I always tip the busdrivers, and I also let them get my bags.

If it came down to buying my daughter mouseears, or tipping the hotel staff, I'd go for the ears every time.
I know, there's probablly a lesson she can learn here somewhere, but when I get to DW once every 8 years, its give and take.
THey take my money, and I GIVE my daughter a magical time (hopefully).

I am a waitress, I know all about tipping. Its a trickle effect.
Tip your waitresses more and I'll be able to afford to tip!

I worked in housekeeping one summer with a friend of mine at a hotel in PCB, FL, while my children where at their other parent's for the summer for something to do. Luckily the owner only rented to families, and the hotel rooms had kitchenettes. Some people left tips and it was nice, we used it for our lunch and snacks. We where paid $7 an hour, and although he did not rent to spring breakers and such, it was a tedious job, some people are just nasty! I leave $5 a day for our family of four, but I also keep the room clean. I spray and disinfect, clean the bathroom, keep things put up and such. I just figure with a couple other tips they have lunch and snacks on us and it is a nice guesture for a hard, mostly thankless job.

Tipping housekeeping in any hotel is the norm if you are a traveler. as you say people who don't travel don't thinks about it. Many don't know enough to tip baggage handlers for heaven sake.
Chambermaid positions pay VERY POORLY, often minimum wage. So it seems to me that if you tip someone who takes your bag from your car and sets it on a trolley then walks you to your room and takes it off a trolley, if you pay that person $2 a bag or even $1 then why would you not give at least $1 per person per day to the person who makes your bed takes your dirty towels wash cloths etc and gives you new ones, and cleans your bathroom. It takes at least ten min. sometimes more to clean a guest room not including towel animals. how long does it take to move a suitcase?

We didn't either when we went in September, and now I feel horrible! I never thought about it either! They really didn't do too much though--the only thing we could see was that they made our bed every day. They never left any towels and never picked up anything.
But, I still feel bad now!

You say they never left any towels, did you hang up your towels or did you leave them on the floor as instructed? they only replace towels you leave on the floor if you leave them hung up it is assumed you don't want new ones to save energy. there is a note to that effect on the bathroom wall.
As for picking up, the maid must be very careful what she touches or moves in a guest room when picking up.

Here's my decision. We are staying at a value resort. I will allow Mousekeeping to come into the room and clean up a bit (as I said though, we're very tidy people so there won't be much to do). I will not be leaving a tip. Purely because I want to save what small amount of spending money I will have. Yes, I would rather spend it on my kids then tip the Mousekeeper. I am at stay-at-home Mom (in order to care for my DS8 who has severe learning disabilities) and my husband works a minimum wage job. This trip was VERY hard to come by and I'm sure will not happen again for many years to come. The next time we go to WDW (whether my boys are teens or maybe when I bring the grandkids someday) I will tip. I'm sure I will be in a better place financially and will be able to do so. Will I feel guilty? No. Thanks in part to many of these wonderful Dis replies! Everyone who visits WDW has a story. For some, visiting every year, or several trips a year, is nothing. For some, they decide on a whim to take a trip. For others, like myself, it's a long road to get here...and I want to enjoy it, by not worrying about how much I have left in my wallet. Thanks to everyone for replying! For those who tried to make me feel better, about not leaving a tip, a sincere "thank you".

Good to hear that you are going to have a wonderful time! Enjoy the experience and more than that, enjoy the experience through your boys eyes. That will be the most rewarding part. You will remember it for years, way beyond the memory of if you tipped the mousekeeper or not, and your families experience is the most important part. I'm sure that's what WDW is all about.
