Seriously. Not meant to be mean, I never even thought about it. (we don't travel much-like EVER :sad2: ) It's just this is a once in a lifetime trip for us, and we're really tight right now. (penny pinching) Never thought I'd be leaving $5 day for Mousekeeping on top. Is this the norm, to tip? (don't want Mousekeeping to do terrible stuff while we're away during the day BECAUSE we never tipped!)

I'm really not a horrible person. Just broke that's all....:rolleyes1

We didn't either when we went in September, and now I feel horrible! I never thought about it either! They really didn't do too much though--the only thing we could see was that they made our bed every day. They never left any towels and never picked up anything.
But, I still feel bad now!

we have been several times and during 1 trip we tipped and then we quit. I have read somewhere that this is NOT a tipped position. I keep our room nice and tidy as well as make the beds myself. The only thing we require is towels.
hth.

I would never consider NOT leaving a tip for the hotel housekeeping staff, everywhere I stay. Those people make minimum wage, could never afford a vacation like WDW and trust me, they have cleaned some pretty nasty stuff up doing what they do. I have a great deal of respect for people in the service industry, they receive a lot of grief but very little gratitude.

I would skip buying my mouse ears if I had to choose between that and leaving a tip for the cleaning service.

But that is me and how I feel. The flip side is that if tipping were mandatory, it would be included in your room charge. It is optional. Are they going to do anything in your room if you don't leave a tip? Absolutely not. They are not going to risk their jobs. And although most people do tip, I'm sure every mousekeeper has experienced guests who do not tip at all.

If you feel guilty because of not leaving a tip, perhaps you should. If you can't afford $5 a day, can you afford $2? If it doesn't bother you to leave nothing, that's okay too.

In most situations, tipping is always optional. I don't know of any place that requires it.

With that said, it's never occured to use to not tip. We are a party of two and leave $2 per day in cute envelopes. :)

I agree with the previous poster-if you can't afford $5, then leave $2.

I always want to, but never really give them a chance.

It's because when I do go, I almost always never clean it and leave one big mess. I'm not joking either, I throw my dirty clothes on the floor and make a pile. I just leave my suitcase open, with the clothes sticking out of it. My bed is always a mess, it's just one big pigsty.

It's not that I don't trust them, it's just that I don't want anyone cleaning my mess. It would probably take them at least 15-30 minutes to clean the mess I make, no way is that worth $3-$5 tip! Plus, Disney World is a lot of money.. so I try to keep all the money I can save!

I don't tip. You are not really supposed to tip mousekeeping. It is a non tipping position at disney.
I have tipped before I found out about mousekeeping not suppose to accept tips. Of course who would turn down free money?

I was worried when I posted this question. I really didn't want to offend anyone, or feel attacked. :rolleyes1 It's just that it's taken us 12 years to afford a vacation like this, and on the other hand, I do realize that Mousekeeping has a, not so pleasant, job. Maybe if I just cancel Mousekeeping while we're there? We're very neat and tidy and I did read that it's not like they change the sheets until we leave or anything. New towels is about the only thing I could see us needing. Would that be acceptable? Then Mousekeeping isin't cleaning our room, and we're keeping our money. Has anyone done this?:confused3

Don't worry, sis. If you are truly that tight (I toooootally understand), then the WDW demons will NOT descend upon you. Just enjoy your first trip in 12 YEARS for goodness sake!! How FUN is that - and I WILL tip extra for you everyday - I am not kidding, either. It might not get to the exact right person, but the intent is there - I'm just trying to pass along a little of the MAGIC. Have a WONDERFUL time!!!:hippie:

Just out of curiosity, where did you get this information from? I have always understood that housekeeping in hotels are tipped positions.

No problem at all,

You'll probably hear them rolling around the carts, so just poke your head out and ask for some! Also, I remember them actually leaving a bag full of towels, toilet paper and soap on my door! I put the note saying not to clean, and they were more than happy to leave it there. Of course, this was at a value resort. I'm not too sure they would be doing that at any other.. :rotfl2:

Not everyone tips Mousekeeping and you shouldn't feel that you have to. If you don't have the extra money to do so, then don't. And, don't feel that you need to request that Mousekeeping not clean your room while you are there because you aren't tipping. Tipping is optional, it is not like tipping your waitress at a restaurant where it's a given that you will. The Mousekeeping staff does not rely on tips like a waitress. I've worked in housekeeping and it's a hard job and, yes, you do get some people who are slobs, but many are relatively clean. I never cleaned a room expecting to get a tip because most people don't tip the housekeeping staff. When I'm at WDW, sometimes I tip and sometimes I don't. It all depends on my circumstances at the time. I have never seen a difference in the service I received either way.

Go and enjoy your vacation!!!

OP-I agree w/ the posters who say not to stress about it--I felt bad, b/c I thought that it was expected. I just honestly never thought about it and again, they didn't do much at all. I find it hard to tip someone who makes 2 beds, without even changing the linens and that's it.

For someone to attack you for that is just wrong. Leave what you can.

While they are not getting rich, Mousekeeping at WDW is not a minimum wage position. They make better money than most of the Disney CMs. I'm not saying you should or should not tip. That is up to the individual.

I agree.
Go and enjoy your vacation.
Let mousekeeping clean your room.
You have saved a long time for your WDW vacation.
Go and enjoy yourself and do not worry about the tipping.

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

We do always tip where ever we stay, I make tips part of my budget. Most housekeepers do a lot more than just make the bed. They clean the toilet and the tub/shower. They replenish towels, clean the sink and vanity. They vacuum, clean the coffee pot and replace the glasses and other supplies in the room, tissues, toilet paper. I love coming back to a fresh room after a long day in the parks, I think they deserve every bit of the tip we leave. If I couldn't afford to leave a tip, I'd at least leave a note that said "thank you".
JMHO

This is one of those touchy subjects. I think some people do and some don't. I have tipped and I have forgotten to tip. I honestly think they do make more than min. wage and I don't think tips are expected like they are with wait staff. I do however think that at WDW... tipping has become the norm probably more than other vacation getaways. I think a clean room is PART OF THE rates we pay as guests. If it were that big a deal...then it would be somehow emphasized at check in. So.....I would not hesitate to NOT TIP if you don't want to. I don't think they will do anything to your room. I don't think a TIP guarantees anything special either. Yes a lot of times they go out of their way to make special towel animals but this is not just because they got a tip either. I think most mousekeepers do a good job without getting a tip. A tip will not necessarily get A GUEST EXTRA CLEANING. Don't sweat it and if you do decide to tip...TIP WHAT YOU WANT...not what you "hear" or "read" is APPROPRIATE. HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!!!! You have earned this one. :thumbsup2

Certainly, not everyone tips. I would not worry one bit about not tipping and don't skip buying the mouse ears! After 12 years, you deserve some mouse ears.

I was a waitress years ago and made way less than minimum wage. Still, a tip is an "extra", not what you base your bills on. They understand that cleaning your room is their job and that's what they get paid for. I would not say they are bitter about not getting a tip. Especially since you are not a messy person. If a mousekeeper has to clean a totally nasty room, then hopefully, the person that left that mess will tip them for the mess and they won't take it out on you. That's what I would expect of a normal mousekeeper.

Don't worry about it and enjoy your tip. Your $5 or $2 is what you earned and it is your right to spend it on what you want to. I hope this is the best vacation ever!!!
