We have POP booked from sept 26 - oct 5 with the bounceback. We wanted to stay at Royal Pacific for 1 or 2 nights to take advantage of the front of line access but did not want to check out of POP. The nights that we are not there and not using the food we will roll over into 2TS meals.

Will we have a problem if they see we are not sleeping there. Couldn't we just put out the do not disturb sign.

we did exactly what you describe in '05 when we were at POFQ for free dining... it was fine... we left our room early on a monday morning w/a small overnight bag for the four of us, leaving the rest of our luggage in the room, got our rental car at the car care center, drove to Royal Pacific and checked in, our room was ready so we put our stuff away and headed to US... spent the whole day there using the FOTLPass, went back to our room for a nap while it rained, headed back out to IoA 'til closing and then went and crashed in our room... got up in the morning, swam in the pool, packed up, got our car from the valet, visited my elderly aunt, dropped our overnight bag at our POFQ room, dropped the car at the dolphin, had dinner at epcot and took the bus back to POFQ... easy peasy and no one seemed to notice nor care at WDW! :)

I am doing this for two nights at the Swan while staying at POR for upcoming trip, and I was crucified on here when I mentioned it. for WASTING a hotel room that some other poor guest could be using.
But there is no reason it should be any problem as far as Disney is concerned. If you really care you can call Housekeeping and tell them you don't want housekeeping service for those days.

what an excellent idea!

my DH wanted to do exactly this next year - to stay at Pop a week, with one night in between at Hard Rock (so we'd get FOTL privilege at Universal) - i'd probably put the "do not disturb" sign out, though...

I was considering the same thing, as the pastor of my former church over on the Gulf coast is retiring and his last weekend is during a Disney trip. They are having a whole weekend of festivities, and I didn't really want to drive back and forth for two days. It seemed so much simpler to just stay over Saturday night than driving back late and then back over early Sunday. I wondered what housekeeping would think when they came in and the bed hadn't been slept in. Of course, it's not inconceivable that I could have friends staying in another room and be bunking in with them, as far as housekeeping is concerned. I'm guessing it wouldn't be a problem unless your stuff was still there and you were supposed to be checked out.

Mickiethepooh - ouch! Sorry that happened...

I do it all the time at non-WDW resorts; go away for the weekend. Usually I just leave up the Do Not Disturb sign and take a carryon with a few items, leaving my other items in the room.

It's actually fairly common for business travellers.

Last year I was 1 night short of earning Hilton Diamond Status. Knowing I would not be making a real trip before the qualification period ended I booked a stay at my local Hampton Inn (Partnered with Hilton), checked in and just left the hotel without even going to the room. They don't care, they're still getting your money for the room.

Also known as a 'mattress run!' :thumbsup2

Wouldnt it be easier to add the Universal night on at the beginning or end of your trip...so you wouldnt have to go back and forth? Or am I just missing something?

What is the Royal Pacific and what is the front of the line pass you are mentioning? Is this something with Universal that I'm missing?

On a side note- I remember that woman being crucified over her hotel room, I think it was maybe 1-2 weeks ago. people acted like it was the same as double booking dining ressies! They just didn't get the difference-that you are PAYING for BOTH rooms, while with the dining ressie, you are only paying for 1 meal...

I think this is a GREAT idea! I'd do the same thing if I found it to be a good deal financially.

Royal Pacific is one of the three on-site Universal hotels. If you stay on-site you get what they call front of the line acess, it is basically the same as fast pass, but Universal does not offer fast pass

:rolleyes1

and I'm not alone.... but you won't find most of us there under the same names ;)

It is actually better for you if you notify the Front Desk before you leave, the reasons are. Housekeeping will not go in the room because there is a DND sign but after a day of inactivity the housekeeper will notify the manager and the manager has the authorization to open the room if they see no signs of a person staying in the room it will create a discrepancy with the front desk (front desk says: yes there are guest in the room and housekeeping says: no there are not) so the room will be checked out assuming the guest left the resort for an emergency, etc. that way you will not loose your money $$$ for the nights that you did not stay there. So it will be better if you do notify the front desk before heading somewhere else, you will not be penalized for not sleeping in your room but it will garantee you that your reservation will be active when you come back. This will save you the inconvenience of waiting a while at the front desk fixing everthing up when you comeback.

we've stayed at the YC for the weekend without checking out of whatever hotel we were staying in at the time....
yes we put on the do not disturb sign ....we've never had a problem....

Dear Lord! That is the most contrived plan I've ever heard of. I'm not knocking it, just can't believe I actually read all the trouble you went to for a few advantages. I thought the shortcuts I took were bad.

On that note, there's nothing wrong with booking 2 hotel rooms and only using one of them. I fact, great idea! One less available room for the masses is not the end of the world. And like others have said, you're paying for it, so what? You are using it...for storage. You could argue that it's a contingency plan in case someone needs their space for a night. ;) I could imagine the hotels actually liking that practice because they get almost 100% profit from your stay. You're not using any utilities or supplies and they get paid in full. Not too shabby. How many trips did you take to figure out that you could get away with all that stuff? pirate:

Im confused...why not just go to Universal for one night at the beginning or end of your trip?
