Anyone NOT own a DVD player?

It started with Blockbusters deal with Lord of the Rings - DH said get it in DVD even though we dont have a player yet. Then I got the Monsters Inc DVD/10 rental Blockbuster deal. Then today I bought the Spiderman DVD/10 rental Blockbuster deal for DS for Christmas.
And finally when I was at the Disney Store earlier today I bought DS 4 more DVDs at $9 each
So I guess Christmas morning better find us with a DVD player under our tree.

No DVD here.
In fact, recently we went looking at new cars(Honda Oddysey) and the salesman was showing us the DVD player in, like this was a big plus. We sort of laughed and DH said we dont have one in our house, I dont think we need one in our car.

We don't have one either.

I'm looking forward to whenever it is that DVD RW (rewriteable) recorders become the norm, as well as blank RW DVD disks. That'd be nice. Right now even with a DVD player you still need a VCR for recording.

We don't have one either. Much to DD's (16) dismay...as she says DH and I are "totally 90's" when it comes to technology. I think we're doing OK...got a computer 6 yrs ago, upgraded it for cable internet connection 4 years ago, upgraded it again last winter...same "dinosaur" monitor and printer though.

In 1988 or '89, as a single mom of a toddler I was thrilled with a VERY generous Xmas check from my father....I think I spent at least several hundred of it on my first VCR.....a Panasonic...I hooked it up to the one TV DD and I had...a 13 inch! LOL That VCR is still the main one in our house, though we've got it hooked up to a 27" TV in our living room now ;). Last year DH and I spent about $60 at BestBuy for a VCPlayer (not recorder) to replace the one DH brought into the marriage - for the bigger TV in the family room so we can watch rented movies in there. We talked about getting a DVD player instead but when we saw the prices of the VCPs vs. DVDs I said "naaaaaaah, that's a few nights at the Dolphin, govt rate" and he agreed ;) :) We'll wait til the prices drop a little....or they stop renting VC movies altogether.

Anbody still have rotary phones that they still use??

My mom.....80 years old and going strong.....has a black, rotary telephone in her hallway. Until 8 years ago she had only that phone but it worried me because she lives alone on a 2-story house. One day I got her out of the house while DH & friend put another phone upstairs.

BTW.....her kitchen appliances are a stove & refrigerator.......and finally a microwave after we bought it for her last year.....but no dishwasher, toaster, electric can opener, blender, food processor.....shall I go on?

I still don't have a DVD player either - just a regular VHS VCR. :(

Hey you guys! Someone has been advertising Apex DVD players for $59.95 on the MyYahoo page. That is probably the one that we bought last year for $69.95 - and it does the job just fine. I really like the DVDs because there they are so compact, they don't have to be rewound, they don't get caught in the players, and I like the extra stuff that comes on the DVDs.
Yes, we still have to have a video player/recorder. But we are using it less and less for anything by recording and playing TV shows.

We don't have a DVD player either but I'm tempted to get one as a family gift for Christmas. I was shocked when I looked at VCR tapes at Best Buy and saw how few they had. It looks like it may be time to upgrade. :(

We also don't have one but plan to get DS an XBox for his b-day so we plan to use it to play DVD's too.

Shameful Confession time here;

No DVD in the Debster household. What is truly shameful is that I work for a mid-sized, national Audio/Video retailer, and could get any player I wanted (at a fairly sizeable discount). We also only have one TV in the house as well, which appalls some of my co-workers.

We dont have a DVD player. So far we havn't felt the need for one. We very seldom rent movies, and dont watch much TV.

DH had to have a DVD player when they first came out, I could care less either way. VCR's work fine for me, especially since we had already accumulated all those tapes. DH is making his business to replicate all the VCR tapes on DVD though.

We just got one a couple months ago.

Just to let you guys know, VHS movies are going to be extinct sooner than you think. I've heard (although it's not been confirmed) that some companies are planning on only releasing DVD movies in a few years.

I have one on the computer but thats it...
Hope to get one for Christmas..:)

We just got one on Friday....DH won it at work! Had to get a converter thingy for the living room tv to hook it up. I must say the quality is outstanding. Can't wait to get the stereo speakers hooked up to it!

We finally caved in and bought a DVD player last weekend - had to get a new tv, too, so we can have the DVD, VCR and satellite all hooked up at the same time. No problem switching between them, either.

We also still have a rotary phone that we use. I had to laugh - a few years ago, one of the neighborhood kids was at our house and wanted to call home. I told her to use the phone in our family room, which is the rotary. She asked me "how do you use this phone - I've never seen one before"!!
