Anyone NOT make room requests?

I get asked this question a lot and I always tell people to just see where they put you and decide on your own what your magical location is. What is perfect for one person, doesn't make sense to the next one.

I tried requests on some trips, and every single time they were ignored. And these were very simple requests, too! And yep, on some of those trips I wound up with rooms that were in pretty bad locations. I find that begging at check-in can help get a better room, though! :teeth:

Rattling some of my failures off my head:

3 weeks ago at WL: I requested a balcony for privacy and security reasons; received ground floor directly next to an entrance/exit door. Threw hissy-fit at check-in and got very nice 3rd floor balcony room.

POR - twice requested AB; instead both times got the farthest room from everything in the back corner of mansion Parterre Place.

CBR - at check-in, I asked for anything but Trinidad South. Got Trinidad South.

CSR - asked for Ranchos; got Casitas. Beg and begged, and got Ranchos.

I find requests are just wasted bytes in the computer - they are meaningless. No one reads them. :( I am officially done ever bothering again with requests! I will probably always be booking a better view/category for now on (no more standard views), just so I can get better located rooms.

We use to get all worked up and try to contact the resorts as our trip got closer .....and one trip we gave up.

We noticed that if you wait until you get down there ....and ask nicely, good things happen!

On one trip we had booked a standard room at Port Orleans Riverside ...and just by mentioning how this was our second visit to Port Orleans, we were moved to a river view! We don't always have such luck, but as long as you go with the right expectations then everything will work out :)

Other than Non-Smoking (when it used to matter), we've never requested anything and have always had a nice room and view.

This time out, we were apparently put into a preferred buliding at CBR. I had no idea it was considered a preferred room until I got home though, so we missed out on the opportunity to go "Wow! Aren't we lucky!?" everytime we turned around.

You know, after reading the boards on this site and boards on other sites, my DH and I have decided not to make a room request. We've decided it is rather moot because it's just a request not a guarantee. We do have a preference for where our room is at POR, we would prefer Magnolia Bend to AB (we live in Maine and have enough "rustic" "country" all around us). We'll just be happy to be at Disney! Just my humble opinion. :surfweb: pixiedust:

Our first time there I requested a non-smoking room for medical reasons, got a nice room that was so smokey we sat outside while my DH called the lobby to complain! We were moved to a ground floor room that was facing the parking lot. I was happy with it since it did not smell like a smoker's haven. That was at ASSports. This year we are staying at POFQ. I did not request any special room. I am paying for standard since I could not justify paying extra just for a view that I will not have time to enjoy! We will be in Disney that is all that matters!

We are planning our first onsite trip but hadn't planned on making a room request bc we aren't really that picky. Seems most people on this board are making room requests of some sort. Does anyone have any tales to share of not making a request and just taking whatever is assigned? Is this just asking for trouble? By not making any requests does one wind up with the worst rooms that noone else wants?:confused3

We rarely ask for room request and I've never asked for one based on view, which seems to be a biggie here. . I've been 17X's stayed mainly deluxe and a few times moderate and I've gotten the famous or infamous Dumpster view one time. What's ironic about that, that trip was absolutely one of the best. Other than that my view off of my balcony has been very pretty. I must be fairly easy to please but I'm pretty much slap happy just to be at Disney.

We never bother. We have been down 3 times in the past 2 years, with another trip coming up in April, and never have any complaints regarding where we are placed, so we never really ask for anything special. :)

We've been 40X times to WDW and never requests anything. All our rooms have been adequate. We might look at the room location as the CM's is showing us on the map at check in and then ask for something Else but never before hand during a reservation. I also believe too many locations are being asked for, never guaranteed, and makes for dis hearted guests when requests are not met.

We always stay deluxe and either take standard or will pay extra for a courtside view depending on our vacation moods. Floors, room numbers, views are immaterial, to us they are all good, its Disneyworld.

Our first trip down I asked for a certain building at ASMu and got the one next to it, which was just dandy. It was a little quieter and still very close to everything.

2nd trip didn't ask for anything and got a lovely 3rd floor room at POP in the 70s building overlooking the courtyard.

This time we are renting from a DVC member and I did request Savannah view for AKV. I will still ask at check in if a bump up is possible, but I think it will be very unlikely. :rolleyes1

We have been to WDW and don't usually make room requests.

The one time we did make a room request was for our trip to AS Movies. DS was really into Toy Story so we faxed a request for the Toy Story section, and if possible the BUZZ building. We got everything we asked for and it was amazing.

The only time I ever made a request was for rooms NOT to be adjoining but on the same floor and we ended up with adjoining! :rotfl:

We have never been disappointed with our room and have even been upgraded at AKL - that was a great surprise!

The only request I used to make was non smoking. Now that all the rooms are non smoking, I don't make any requests at all.

The only time I ever made a request (asked for a waterview room at POR) we got the worse room ever. Our "waterview" room was so called, and priced, because that side of the building faced one of the quiet pools. If we strained and were holding our breath we could hear someone in the pool if they were hooting and hollering, but I would not have called this "waterview".

We've been lucky to get a few unexpected room upgrades from standard view to waterview before at CBR but we've never been disappointed in our room. I think WDW does a really great job in making sure that most rooms have decent views or some other redeeming quality. A good example of that is at WL. We got a room with a view of the service entrance once and while during the day it wasn't a great view each night we able to watch the MK fireworks from our balcony. :thumbsup2

the only request we make is not ground floor (we like to leave the drapes open, which seem to be a people magnet :confused3 nothing like sitting on the bed in your pjs watching TV, as a family stands by the window watching you:eek: ).
we don't ever request a "certain" floor, just not the bottom.
:)

I make one simple request per visit. It is usually a quiet room now. When DD was an infant, it was near the food court. On our 2004, trip no request other than non-smoking.

I usually make requests, but this year, I'm not going to, so I can see what happens (read to mean: we might get an upgrade since I didn't make any requests!!). The way I read people's comments, it looks as if you stand a better chance of getting upgraded if you're easy. I realize it could all backfire on ya, too. (gee, these people don't care WHERE they are; I'm gonna stick 'em on top of the dumpter!:headache: )

My DBF and I visited in May 2007, and we didn't make a room request. We stayed at POP, where my family had stayed a year before that. We were actually in the exact same wonderful location as the year before, when before there had been a request. So even without one, we still got a great room location.

we've never made a room request and just have come out with good luck...

I always heard of people doing it but we have never got around to it before we were ready to leave...

we may try it for the next trip, but Magic Kingdom view at Contemporary regardless of location should be amazing :)

I have never made a request. I just don't get the point since you will most likely not end up with what you asked for.
