Anyone not like Poly? Why?

I think space was an issue I've read someplace and they added that warm water jet section to to the main pool to make up for lack of hottub which some have said they enjoy just as well.

still wondering why they can't/don't/won't police who uses the pool more closely. It almost seems as if they purposely turn a blind eye. Like "if you know how to do this, consider it a hidden perk or something"? I was booked at BC/YC but switched to Poly for monorail and wonder if I made a wise choice.

The management really should kick out pool hoppers--and many of them are very obvious by the way. It's frustrating to pay for an expensive room to stay there and then to be crowded by others who do not belong.

I heard somewhere before that Disney did not want to have a fence because it would block the view of the castle and beach. Still, I would not mind at all if they periodically asked to see room keys. They could just tell guests to be prepared for the possibility and then check them.

Poly is okay to me. I think each resort has their ups and downs.

Poly's downsides are so many people for such a small pool and lobby area. It always seemed packed. Plus, Ohana and the breakfast are popular and there are always people wandering and waiting from other resorts. Not too much of an issue except it is the only tru sitting area in the lobby as well as the only indoor bar. It is always packed and never peaceful. The pool bar closes super early in my opinion. I think it is 5pm but I am not sure. There also seemed to be many people again from other resorts that went swimming and came to the beach area to watch fireworks and the water parade. Also, no hot tubs.

The other downside is that there is no decent quick place to get a bite to eat. That was a huge negative for us. My main complaint was the buses to AK, DTD, and MGM were SO SO SO slow - did I say slow!!! You never knew who you were sharing a bus with (CR, GF or both) and it seemed like they came every 30min or so while other resorts were quicker and didn't share. It just wasn't worth it to wait, we really wished we had a car.

I like the proximity to MK and the monorail but I think for me we won't stay there again. I have stayed at CR, Coronado and Pop and have liked all of them more then the Poly overall. I do love going to the poly to eat at Ohana's and always seem excited to be there when I am there, but staying there wasn't as great as I thought it would be. There are other resorts much more peaceful. Coronado was my all time favorite but my dd LOVES Pop so we will head there again next time.

We thought it was GOOD but not GREAT like the Grand Floridian and the Wilderness Lodge. Why? Little things like the lack of a hottub, there was no fan in the bathroom, it was a hike to get to our room, the fact that O'Hana seems to have slipped, and just an overall feeling that it didn't seem like a $400 a night place.

I think you can do better for a similar amount of $$$.

This was my feeling, as well. We had a MK view room which was lovely. Overall, though, the resort was not worth the cost to us.

I like the theme at the Poly. But, I love sunshine and palm trees and island music. They play that pretty island music everywhere, even under the water in the big pool. Wish you could buy that music. I love the way the staff is always saying, "Aloha" to you.

The views from the Poly rooms are some of the prettiest on WDW property. Garden views are pretty and water views even prettier. But, many hotels have nice views.

I do NOT like the walking in and out of buildings - especially when it is raining, but I don't like it any time. And I'm not big on the colors in the lobby.

I also don't like the do-it-yourself ordering at Captain Cook's or the slooooooow cashiers. Get on the ball, guys! We joked that they must have turned cashiering over to government employees.

I couldn't care less about sharing the beaches and pool with non-Poly guests and would NOT want to have to wear a wristband or show an ID card to get in the pool. I also don't care about not having a hot tub.

The Poly is my favorite resort NOT to stay at. I love to walk around the resort at night. It is just beautiful. I will say, the location is outstanding.

We did stay there 2 years ago. Everything just seemed OK to me. Room, just OK. CM's were just OK. Pool less than OK. Too many people at the pool and no enough "deck" space. Price less than OK.

I 100% agree.

We have booked & cancelled two Poly trips this year alone. The price just really burns me. We went to 2 dinners & a breakfast there during our stay at Riverside-we really wanted to get a feel for the place to see if we REALLY wanted to stay there. Yes, the views are great & the monorail so convenient, but there is something missing for me & I can't put my finger on it. The place did seem crowded to me. From the monorail area, to the dining areas & especially the pool. We might go to differerent resorts for dinner & maybe a little walk around afterward, but I would never use the facilities of a resort that I wasn't a guest at. I find it very rude. Is the SOB pool great at YC/BC? Sure, but I would never even think of hopping in for a dip. And yes, I would be pretty ticked paying all that money & having those that didn't take advantage of it. That being said, we really enjoy WL & POR/FQ.

sunee, I'm with you on the wearing a wristband thingy, never do it, even when I'm suppose to (just attach it to one of my bags, but don't you have to carry a resort card anyway to get in and out of your room? no big deal there and if it kept attendance down I am all for that.

At Vero Beach they actually do check to make sure you are a resort guest if you are on their beaches and keep it very exclusive so not sure why they couldn't do it here. I do get the fences not being so nice but a CM checking seems reasonable.

I also don't know how walking outside will feel to me as I'm really used to interior cooridors, however, GF is way out of my league for now with my family.

still think if we can get past the "crowded part" we will enjoy it.

KMLOVESWDW, well, the pics of SAB look great and the reviews sound even better but since I will be alone with 2 toddlers/preschoolers to watch much of the time and also 2 JrHiers to entertain I was afraid of keeping up with them at such a spread out pool.

I just keep checking in here as I want to have a very realistic picture in mind before I go so my expectations are within reason but I still think we will have a fine time even with the crowds!

We wouldn't stay any other place than at the Poly. Being on the monorail line is great. Stayed at the Contemporary in January and had a Magic Kingdom room...hated the bird crap all over the balcony. But you know...you have ups and downs with any resort...but being in the "world" is all that matters.

We stayed at the Contemporary years ago and had a Magic Kingdom View tower room. Yes, it was nice to see the MK, but the balcony was extremely hot to sit out on and it was cover with bird droppings too.

My DH loves the Contemporary, but we are trying out the Poly unless I could get a good deal for GF.

We went last December. I love love love the Poly. My children loved it too. I loved the big rooms. I guess I am part of the Brady Brunch (there is six children in my family!) because the atmosphere is one of the things we liked about it. Very friendly CMS. Our rooms were always cleaned well with towel animals left for us. We could watch the electrical water parade and fireworks from the beach . Big bathrooms. We like trying out different resorts. Next year it will be WL for us and I am so afraid we will be disappointed after such a great stay at the poly!!!! Good Luck!!!!

Although I have never stayed there personally I find it to be "BRADY BUNCH GOES HAWAII" tacky too! For the price that they charge I would rather spend the money on a "REAL-TRIP " to Hawaii! The only thing that I do like about it is the monorail, however out of all of the monorail resorts it would be my last choice of a place to stay....

Laying in the pool and hearing tropical music underwater gets me every time.

Walking the grounds at night, slowly - just for the hell of it - is very relaxing. All that tropical foliage is just so pretty. And those tiki torch things are pretty cool.

The Boutiki is a heck of a gift shop, too. And a big round of applause for the clerks in the Poly gift shops. They're really friendly and helpful. Many WDW shopping staff could learn a thing or two from them.

Its kind of funny to follow this post. I've been to several islands of Hawaii, three of Tahiti islands, plus a few places in Fiji and briefly at the Cooks. Many resorts on these islands would qualify at "Brady Bunch" in style according to some of our fine posters. Hawaii has its own offshoot, the eratz Japano-Bradyish style . Even a few places in Indonesia I've been qualify as "Bradyesque." Maybe we should take our hats off to the producers of the show for their influence worldwide on culture, architecture, and interior design.

Most of the complaints I've read are fair (although the "Brady Bunch" analogies are getting tired), but I don't get the complaints that walking between buildings is a chore when it's raining. How is it the resort's fault? It's like complaining about exhaust while standing at a bus stop.
