Anyone not like Dole Whips???

They should have pineapple Dole Whips with rum at F&W while you're there also. And the patio at the Polynesian resort has a drink called the Spikey Pineapple that's pineapple Dole Whip blended with Barbancourt Pango Rhum. I'm planning on one of these now that the orange Dole Whip with pineapple juice float is gone.
Now, that might be worth trying!!! I believe F&W is still on when I'm there in November. I'll have to keep this one in mind!! :D

I am looking forward to trying a Spikey Pineapple at the Tiki Terrace, even if dole whips aren't my favorite.

I like them... But they are very overrated...

Disney has many things that get rave reviews and shouldn't...

Le cellier is the poster child for that...but there are many others.
Holy heck yes!!!!!!!!! It definitely is!!!!!

I agree with you OP, I didnt think theyre anything special AT ALL. I think theyre incredibly overhyped. However, I did absolutely adore the citrus-vanilla swirl with pineapple juice. Much tastier! But wait, the citrus swirl is gone?? I just saw someone's post above.

You all have just killed my destiny. Stabbed a spear through my heart as if I were a vampire.

I have never tried one but have seen them hyped up on these boards for years now. It was going to be a "must do" on our Oct trip but now, not the dream of finally being handed the most amazing dessert on earth has been wiped off the windshield of my eyes.

Shame on all of you! :P

I apologize for ruining your life forever and ever and utterly destroying DisneyWorld. ;) Sometimes I just get away from myself.

I haven't tried Dole Whip yet, but I agree about the Mickey bars. I constantly see them listed among favorite snacks at WDW and am mystified. I'm pretty sure I've had a Mickey bar before, though not absolutely positive, and I'm pretty sure it was a regular ice cream bar with ears...wasn't it? Ditto for the much-glorified Mickey waffles. Excuse my blasphemy, but IMO putting ears on it doesn't always make it taste better.

Yeah- the Mickey bar fondness in my family is all about memories attached to the things, not that the actual flavor is better than a standard ice cream bar. It's a nice treat and we enjoy them, but the only "special" is the shape and the previous times we've shared them.

Citrus swirl is still at Sunshine Tree Terrace! Aloha Isle used to have an orange Dole Whip (different from citrus swirl) that they would make pineapple floats with that has disappeared from their menu; that's what I was lamenting the loss of. I don't believe the citrus swirl with pineapple juice is available anymore...I think that was temporary as the two places swapped locations.

They are decent, but I can easily do Disney and not have one. They really are not that big of a deal. I would prefer to make a pineapple smoothie with only natural ingredients. It tastes better and I do not have to smell the nastiness in that area while I am waiting in a line that moves slower than Toy Story Midway Mania. :teeth:

They are awesome because (a) pineapple is CLEARLY the best fruit, and pineapple flavored "soft serve" is a pretty rare treat, and (b) pineapple soft serve is very refreshing on a hot day in MK, much more so than real ice cream, which can fill you up and make you feel bloated/gross on a hot day.

Yes, that. And Earl of Sandwich, T-Rex, Flame Tree and Rainforest Cafe.

Is it me or are Dole Whips totally over hyped??? Years back I saw the stand at MK for them after reading its praises on the disboards and rushed over to get a few for my husband and I. We were like "it's OK" but I just didn't get the fascination. Maybe if I hadn't eaten in a month, they would of tasted better but they weren't really that fantastic. Did I order the wrong thing?
Dole Whips, or something similar, are sold at the 7-11 a block away. Why would I pay $$$ to go to Orlando to get something I can get at 7-11?

My wife LOVES them so I end up having one just because we're there. I'd never seek one out on my own though. They're okay but not the end all be all of ice cream to me.

A little bit of Trivia:
1) Dole Whips are only available in MK.
2) Some kind of licensing agreement regarding the name.
3) At all other "Dole Whip" stations, item is called a Pineapple Whip.
. . . to CM's, they are still commonly called Dole Whips
. . . unless a manger catches you, and you are corrected

4) The same thing happens with Starbucks Coffee.
5) They are not Starbuck Stands.
6) They are "featuring" stands, example:
. . . in AK, it is Creature Comforts, featuring Starbucks Coffee

A mile from my house is a seasonal ice cream stand that sells Dole Whip. They usually have a couple flavors. Or you can have any of the "mix-in" flavors that they use for their soft serve. Guess that's why I never understood the big deal!! Around here, it's a great alternative for people who can't have dairy, but that's about it.

I find them to be really gross! They make me think of those processed chicken images of pink extruded stuff!...I know I am in the minority.

I actually meant the orange-vanilla swirl/dole whip from aloha isle...not the citrus swirl from sunshine tree terrace. I used the wrong term, sorry. The orange-vanilla swirl was from aloha isle was my absolute favourite. Your right, theyre not available anymore. Such a pity.

The licensing agreement must cover the Polynesian too because they are called Dole Whips there as well. Photos of actual menu here: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2014/...-disneys-polynesian-village-resort-dole-whip/. Disney's official menu online: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/polynesian-resort/pineapple-lanai/menus/

Geeky me researched this when I noticed last year they were called pineapple whips at Tamu Tamu in AK. :)

My DH loves the pineapple floats but he tried the dole whip float for the first time this trip and he said it was ok. I liked the pineapple float alot better than the dole whip float. If he is not with me I never even think about them and dont like them, lol. But he loves them so when he is there I will have a bite or 3..

I had no idea they were not "ice cream". No wonder they tasted "odd". I like a good vanilla soft serve and they didn't taste nice and creamy like ice cream. I would never get one again. Not worth waiting in line for 1 minute for them. Thanks for the Trivia. Interesting!
