Anyone not going to HHI cause of Ivan?

I'm leaving Sun. for HHI and I am watching Ivan. A couple of the possibles paths show it going right through O'town from the gulf and back up the east coast with GA, SC and NC getting some before it goes back to sea. I'm not worried about my vacation being ruined , but I am conserned for the safety of my family.

When Charley and Frances hit FL, was anybody here on the DIS at HHI. What was it like. I am guessing rain and wind, but how much? Were places still open, or were you confined to your room?

I live about 45 min away from HH. We are 25 miles inland and 30 miles upstate from there. We got a lot of rain and wind with Frances, and a little less with Charley. I haven't caught the local weather folks forcase for Ivan yet, but the usual common sence things will apply- keep out of the water if told to.... stay tuned to local weather programs...

I personall would still go. I have only lived in SC for 11 years . DD and DS have friends they go down to HH with all the time-the friends GP owns a 4 bed beach "cottage"... very nice. They check the local HH radio stations first, you can do that online- check the Post and Courier Newspaper for Charleston SC., they have an online paper and might be helpfull.
Have you called HH and asked what was being advised? Not by DVC, but the local officals?

I was in Hilton Head for both Charley and Frances.

Charley missed us completely. The day it was supposed to arrive was a gorgeous, sunny day at the beach. The only effect was great waves for the boogie boards.

Frances brought a lot of rain (3 days of straight rain) and a few high winds early one morning, (it woke me up!) but no big damage. A few smaller branches were blown about.

I never felt unsafe either time. I would just go for it. You can check http://hurricane.terrapin.com for path projections. As of now it looks like it is headed pretty far to the west and then over. HH should be fine, maybe some rain.
