Anyone not a fan of split stays?

I guess I'm one of the minority but I love split stays. This past January we did a split stay between WL and AKL. In May I did a split stay two nights at POP, rented DVC points for BWV for five nights, then added two more nights at POP. In Dec I'll be doing another split stay between POFQ and CSR. Can't wait!

Unfortunately next month I'll be stuck in one resort for seven nights, because my D-I-L didn't want to do a split stay. I have a feeling I'm gonna get bored by the fourth or fifth night.

I live out of my suitcase so switching resorts is not a big deal. I can be packed and out of there in less than 10 minutes. Disney transports the luggage, so other than running over to check into the new resort what is the big deal?

You are not weird at all. My DH is not a fan at all of split stays. He isn't a fan at staying anywhere but CSR so a split stay is totally out of the question. As someone else posted having small children is really hard to do a split stay anyway so you can say that I would not be a real fan of doing it right at this point in my life either. Packing, unpacking, packing for 3 (husband does his own) and losing a day of parks or pool doesn't sound fun to me, but to each his own, right?

It will be our first trip ever to the States in April   , and being Brits we have booked for two weeks. I really, really wanted the Poly and the monorail but couldn't stretch to 14 days at those prices plus £1400 airfare (about $2400)!! So I have booked 10 days POFQ, followed by 4 days Poly for that bit of luxury at the end. Reading all these posts, I'm now wondering if I've done the wrong thing!! We've only got the one DS, 5, so I'm hoping it won't be that hard!!!!????

What a perfect split! We did the same thing! We split our stay between Poly and POFQ and it worked out wonderful! You will enjoy both resorts.

Actually, you don't lose a day of either.

We have left early for the parks & either put our luggage in the car before we leave or we have Disney transport it. We checked in when we were done with the parks.

More often we have gotten dressed in our bathing suits, left our resort, headed to the new one, checked in & then went to the pool until our room was ready.

I guess the only time "wasted" is the checking in part. I used to think it would be a huge deal, but in all honesty, it's not bad at all. :)

Can you have your luggage moved for you on the day of the resort change? How does one go about that task? Is it too risky? If I have a car should I just plan on doing it myself?

We always have a car so we usually just throw our luggage in the car & transfer it ourselves. If you have groceries that need refrigeration they will store them for you until your room is ready.

The only reason we do it this way is because we just prefer to be in charge of our own things  .

If you don't have a car Disney will take care of everything for you. If you need to get something out of your luggage while it is in storage you can do that, so it's not like you can't get to your luggage.

Not a fan of the split stay either. We pick our resort, settle in and enjoy it to the fullest. If we have another resort we are interested in we stay there on the next trip. :thewave:

There is only one way that I can tolerate it...that is IF we decide to add on an extra day and we can't get into the resort we previously booked at. I hate wasting even an hour switching places (and we know it takes longer than that to pack all that stuff up.) :earboy2:

...is a reason I don't think has been mentioned for split stay. Our stay starts Nov. 23 (regular) and ends Dec. 4 (value season starts Nov. 27). So, we are staying at POP Nov. 23-27 and POR Nov. 27-Dec. 4. You pay the nightly rate for your entire stay depending on the check-in rate. I have been told that if I would have stayed at one resort I would have had to check out and back in on the 27th to get the value rate and there is no guarantee that we wouldn't have had to switch rooms so I figured what the heck. We may as well just try out a new resort.

We (actually I) were thinking of a split stay this trip since we will be at WL for 10 nights. Decided against it. The thought of packing up the room half way during our stay was too much for me.

or if we traveled without kids I didn't mind doing a spit stay. My next trip is just us (dd & me) and I definitely don't want to do a split stay.

You aren't weird either..LOL

NOT a fan here at all. Our last trip to Disney last fall...we started out at the Pop Century then ended with Animal Kingdom logde over a course of 7 days. We really lost a lot of time going from one place to another. Plus the fact that we had to repack wore everyone out. We were not happy with ourselves after the fact. We would have been much better off remaining in one place the whole time.

We solved our problem though! :) This October we will be a in 1 bedroom villa at SSR. We joined DVC last year....:)

happy to remain in one spot,
Esmerelda

We did it once so we could do Epcot and MGM while at BWI and do MK at the Contemporary but I didn't like it. We are in the category of people who did waste time while doing this(some our own doing and some Disney's) and we moved our own things too. Check in at Cont. was a hassle and even though we got the view we wanted, we really just liked BWI better for some reason. Kept comparing everything at both resorts etc. I wouldn't do it again. DS also has special needs and really likes to settle in one room. I think he finds it less confusing. I would definitely do it though if it was a season change issue or we owned DVC and didn't want to waste points on the weekend.

I just finished my first split stay. I'm not sure it was worth it and next trip we won't split. We lost a day packing and moving (had to wait until 5 p.m. for room) and I hated leaving the first resort.

Not our thing, our resort for a trip is our home and I look forward to coming home to it every night. I just make sure to stay in a new resort every trip.

I am NOT a fan of split stays. We have done split stays twice, not by choice. Each time, it was more trouble than it was worth and wasted a lot of time, even tho Disney takes care of your luggage.

I would only consider a split stay if I was staying at Disney for 2 weeks, but it's not likely I would ever get to stay that long.

Split stays always sound much more exciting and attractive while you're planning your trip. ;) Once you arrive, it's simply a hassle I'd rather do without.

That said, our upcoming trip is scheduled over 2 seasons, just like another poster mentioned. So, to save money, I have made two separate ressies for the same resort. While I might have to move to a different room, I feel it won't waste as much time since we are already on the grounds. Here's hoping anyway. :)

I agree that it is just a personal preference. We did our first split stay this year. We had rented DVC points to stay at SSR. DVC points are much higher on the weekend. So, we stayed at CBR for the Fri, Sat, and Sun before moving over to SSR.

I had heard a lot about split stays and wondered if I would like it. I am glad I tried it, but I don't think I will want to do it again in the future, unless there would be some set of circumstances that will make it necessary.

We didn't really feal like we could settle into CBR because we knew we were going to be leaving there in a few days. Didn't care for packing up either. The move part was easy because the resort took everything from our CBR room over to SSR. But, bell service was suppose to be at our room at 8:00 to pick everything up. I had made the arrangements because we needed to leave to get to a PS by 8:15. Well, I had to call the front desk at 8:20 to find out where they were at.

Also, our luggage was suppose to be in our room by 5:00. At 5:30, I was calling SSR front desk inquiring about our luggage. We had packed an overnight bag and made sure that required items were kept with us, and we didn't lose anything. Everything was picked up and delivered fine.

But, the stress of worring about bell service on both ends just wasn't worth it for us. The fewer stresses I have on vacation, the better.

I can truly see both sides, having said that, I've split stays every trip save the first two. making plans for luggage transfer is work, but never really had a bad experience. I simply love being able to take my time at epcot after fireworks then walk to my hotel.
I LOVE relaxing on main street then taking the mono or launch to the resort. I've even split stays on these last 3 trips between 2 Disney Resorts and a USF resort! Not heading to the parking lot at the end of the day, being able to take an afternoon nap and head right back to EP, MK or MGM makes the trip for me, but then again I'm a guy who loves hotels. For me checking in to a new Disney Resort is like beginning a new vacation. Definately not for everyone.
I can see that this would be a nightmare for some people. :goodvibes

We only do two kinds of split stays anymore.

1) a night at a value if we are arriving late, then a move to our resort in the morning of the second day. Represents pretty good savings, and you still start the day early on Day 2. Periodically, we use this strategy on weekend trips to Universal. We'll stay at Pop for $49 Friday night and have dinner at 'Ohana or bop over to Epcot for the evening, and go check in to Royal Pacific first thing Saturday morning. FL Resident rates at RPR lately have been $159. So, we still get Front of the Line privaleges for our entire weekend (Sat & Sun), but we save $110.

2) Or, on a longer stay we'll spend several nights at a Universal resort and then hop to a a Disney resort.
