Anyone near St Augustine beach area?

we dont live there but visit 3-4 times a year. Maybe I can help.

I'm looking for a hotel on the beach. I saw a Holiday Inn that looked nice. Also a Ramada Limited but couldn't tell if it was on the beach or not. Big price difference also. Any suggestions?

Some of the Hotels ON the Beach.....................

Holiday Inn
Hampton Inn (there is also a second one on Vilano Beach, on the North side of st. augustine Inlet)
Beacher's Lodge
La Fiesta

The Ramada you speak of is on the Beach SIDE of A1A, but not ON the beach.

Some hotels on the west side of A1A, but within 1-2 minutes walk of the beach....

Hilton Garden Inn
Days Inn
Wellsley Inn & Suites.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS THE "St. AUGUSTINE BEACH FRONT RESORT" @ 300 A1A Beach Blvd.

Hope this helps....................

Jim why avoid that one?? Is that the one next to the pier?? I think the Hampton Inn by Vilano Bridge looks really nice and is in a nice area.

We're going next week! I did alot of research and hopefully I got all correct info. The Holiday Inn appears to be the best "on the beach" hotel with the Hampton Inn a close second. I was also told to absolutely positively avoid the Beachfront Resort.

Just a little heads up....everything on the beach was running $120-$150 per night including the Holiday Inn but with my entertainment book I was able to get a rate of $67.50 per night at the Holiday Inn. What a great deal! I hope it turns out to be everything we think it is. Just looking for a clean, well maintained hotel right on the beach for a few beach days and a few St Augustine days. This seems like it will fit the bill.

Hope this helps!

Well, I dont mean to burst your bubble, however, your room will be on ground level, with HUGE picture windows right at the parking lot. The hotel is 2 seperate buildings, shaped like a
T...the north/south running building has the front desk, rest. and bar, then you EXIT that building and go to the east/west running building, which is 4 floors, all interior corridors, with the east side having ocean views....

We were there in april following our WDW trip, and I like you booked an entertainment card rate, and low and behold, the room was AWFUL......the windows facing that parking lot, where EVERYONE walks to the beach were huge....I ended up complaining, and the next night got moved up to the 4th floor.

We never used the house keeping, as I really wasnt impressed with the timing.....they also didnt speak english, which made it hard to communicate. I just threw the towels out the door in the morning, grabbed new stuff off the cart, and put the DND sign in the key slot.

The tiki bar - THE BEST!!!! can't say more

Pool VERY clean...and I'm anal about that stuff....

walk a short bridge over the dunes to the beach- which was SUPER clean.....

Hotel overall- yup I'd stay there again, at the EC rate, with a better room than they give you.

The breakfast, yuck.......

Good luck

Brandy

I knew it was a ground flloor room with 2 queen beds....I guess there are some rooms with double beds and some rooms with queens. All I wanted was 2 queens in a clean place on the beach. I don't really care about the view....If I want to see the ocean I'll go down to the beach....if people walking by bother me or the parking lot view then I'll just shut the curtains. The rate was just too good for me to care about the view. I'm also one who would never pay extra for a "view" though.
I do appreciate the words of wisdom though...it's always best to be prepared!:D

So, the big question is....Did you find the book?

And yes, I'd love to read a mini-trip-report on this thread when you return (pretty please!:D )

We're spending a few days in St Augustine at the beginning of August but staying at a Holiday Inn Express on some highway mainly because it was FREE with HI points. I have heard since that parking is difficult so I'm a bit nervous about my decision. We'll have to find this Holiday Inn on the beach to see how good the location is. I'm primarily interested in the historic area and the fort(s).
