We are planning our move, hopefully for next spring...but its not 100% sure yet. :) But I am curious, I have seen some lifetime Floridians on here who desperately want to get out but what about people who moved down as adults who now don't want to be there and want to leave...or did leave?

Just curious. :)

Nope! I'm a Florida girl! I grew up all over the world then when my father retired, we moved to Florida. I met and married a (wonderful) military guy and spent the next 20 years moving all over the world! When we retired - it was straight to Florida for us. I can't imagine living anywhere else! Florida is a part of who I am now..................LOVE IT!

We moved to Florida as a career move and ended up only staying 6 weeks!! Dh (soon to be ex) hated it. I didn't mind it for a temporary move, but I love the changing of the seasons too much to actually live there permanently. However I do LOVE to visit!! ::yes::

I don't think it's necessarily just FL, it can apply anywhere. We moved from NJ to FL. I stayed there 15 years. Like anything, you do it 15 years, there's a good chance you're ready for a change! :) Nine years ago I moved from FL to Northern VA. HATED IT! Not the area so much, it was nice...but expensive! I missed my friends and former SO. I stayed one month and moved back to FL. Even called my former boss and got my job back.

This year it was enough for me. LOL! I was miserable enough and moved to VA, but a different area. I LOVE it here and didn't hesitate buying a home. There is no way you'd get me to Northern VA again, but this is perfect for me. :teeth:

No matter where you move, I think it has a lot to do with the specific area you're in. I liked the area of FL I was in, but there are other areas I'd never go near.

We were very close to moving and decided the school sytem and crime rate wasn't for us. The issue could come up again.

Came here in 1980. Hated the heat and humidity from the start! People kept telling me I'd get used to it in time. Still waiting!!!! :sad2: Actually, I dislike Florida more now than in the beginning due to overcrowding and health issues that are now aggrevated by high humidity. I'd gladly choose ANY state over this one! ::yes::

We were going to move to Orlando this summer, but the heat and the humidity got to us. We went to Orlando to just kind of finalize some things and the heat was just too much for us to bear and I just felt sorry for the kids cause I had to drag them in and out of the heat (in/out of the bldg and car). I was just worried about the kids when it's hot and they have to be outside during recess and during lunch. The temp during our stay was in the high 90s and it felt like in the high 100s and it wasn't even summer yet!

Not only the heat, but I am terrified of lightning/thunderstorm and from my understanding there's plenty of it there. Of course my family, especially my parents being old (mid-70 and mid-80). I just want to spend as much time as I can with them while they are still living.

One of these days...maybe...and I know I can...I almost did! :) But I thought the timing was right...but I guess not...not yet. If the moving there will never happen, I know I can always visit Florida. I don't regret that I didn't move there this summer. I am happy here in Michigan. Time can only tell...

What areas were you looking in?

We have moved to Florida twice and moved away. The moves were all job related though, and we hope to relocate to central Florida again in the not too distant future. I think the body adjusts to the heat and humidity(and there is plenty of both!).
My tolerance for cold and expensive tix to Orlando has decreased rapidly.;)

Yes! I lived there for almost 4yrs. Decided my gripes about FL far outweighed what I liked about it so I moved home.

I moved there for a year, I lived in an apartment close to the Goodings. My fault for moving so close to WDW, but the tourist thing got to me on a regular basis. I guess I just wasn't used to it. Also I found that the income potential for my industry was a LOT different there as opposed to the DFW area. I was young, live and learn. :)

Back in November 1992, I decided I was going to move to Florida. Had all my stuff packed up and in my parents garage just waiting for the movers. Then I drove across the country from CA to FL. A friend of mine went as far with me as El Paso then flew home. I stayed with my cousin who at the time lived in Apopka (a suburb of Orlando) and looked for a job and a place to live. The entire time I just felt like I wasn't ready. So the day before the movers were scheduled to go pick up my stuff, I called them and cancelled. And drove back home to CA. The whole ordeal was quite an adventure, but moving was not something I was ready for. Since I'm still in CA, I guess I'm still not ready. :p

I've moved back and forth from Florida to Illinois for a long time. I still miss Florida (but if I moved I would then miss Chicago).

The parts I didn't like about Florida was the heat, humidity (ever have your windshield wipers on when there wasn't any rain coming down for several miles?), mosquitos, and the difference in what I could make.

The things I liked is the slowness (things are just taken much much slower), and the friendliness. As for the crime rate, etc., it depends on where you move to. I still miss it.

My sister did.

Her DH took a year sabatical from the university and went to work with an Orlando consulting buisness, her kids were 4 & 6. She lived north of Orlando in a very nice area-took them forever to find a house without a pool! But she felt the area was very transient...constantly people moving in and out of the neighborhood and school and the food co-op she volunteered at. They moved back to N.C. and don't regret it. (They are not theme park people-only went once the whole time they lived there! )

Like Fantasia, we came really close to moving down to the Orlando area, DH had a job, we went down strictly to look at neighborhoods and houses twice and we stayed in a friends condo. By the end of the second trip we came to the conclusion that as much as we love Disney we really weren't big fans of central Florida. Too much traffic, huge bugs(Disney must have the best pest service in the world), too hot and humid, the yards were tiny and the houses we're way too close together.

So we decided to move to the mountains of PA and now after almost 9 months I don't have a single regret, I know we made the right decision. My best advice is to make sure you go down and stay outside Disney, don't even go to the parks, just so you really get a sense of the area- then make your decision.

We would not be moving to Orlando. We would be moving to Sarasota, quite a ways from the parks sadly, but where my husband's brother and family are.
