We just spent 9 glorious days in Ft Lauderdale and are seriously considering moving ( not for 18mos or so) but just the thought if it puts a smile on my face. I just love the area. I saw some nice new developments in Miramar and also a gorgeous house right in Ft Lauderdale, so tell me what you can. I've been scouring the internet for listings. How are the schools and which areas are better for young children.

Thanks

I am!

I live a little north of Ft. Lauderdale, in Delray Beach, which is in Palm Beach County. But I lived in Ft Lauderdale for most of my young life.

I just moved back down from Tallahassee, so I can't tell you how the schools are now, however, if you go to www.browardschools.com , you can look up the grade a certain school got the previous year. (The state gives each school a grade from A to F, based on test scores.)

You can also find the school a certain address is zoned for.

I'd say the best family areas would be Coral Springs and Weston. Thats not to say other areas wouldn't be good for you, but they seem to be the best to me. I've lived in both Davie and Hollywood, both of which have their good and bad areas. Which most places do, right? I don't know much about Miramar.

Feel free to PM me if you would like. Good luck with your move! As someone who just went through a move, I advise you to start throwing out stuff now!

My MIL lives in Aventura, which is just south of Fort Lauderdale. Her mother, lives in Delray Beach (DH's grandmother), so hi from her Aurora63! Aventura is a nice place to live, but MIL says that all the families send their kids to private schools, since the schools there stink. We've visited there many times, and it is a nice area. From what I've heard from DH's grandmother, she's been there for 25 years, the schools are slightly better in Palm Beach County than in Broward County. You might consider living in Boca Raton. That's pretty close to Fort Lauderdale, about 20 mintues, but lots of young families.
