Seems like this is the time everyone is planning or thinking of this years vacations.

This year will be our 10th anniversary. So we want to plan something fun this summer to celebrate. And since we only go to Disney everyother year and we went last October I guess we will go somewhere else.

DH (big Nascar & Dale Jr. Fan) has been wanting to visit Mooresville, NC and tour DEI, so thought we could drive from PA and stop in there for a couple days. What else is there to do in the area?? Thought we would head to the beach for a few days from there. What beach areas are fairly close that is good for families (we have a 7 yo DD) and has other things to do besides just laying on the beach??? We have vacationed in Myrtle Beach in the past, is it close (within 4 - 6 hour drive)?????

Any help would be appreciated!!!!

We used to live in Concord, NC. That's about 20 minutes south of Mooresville. If you are NASCAR fans then go to Charlotte Motor Speedway....wait, it's Lowes Motoer Speedway now. Anyways, thats a neat place and depending on when you go you can hang out in the stands and watch racers practice sometimes. Also, in Kannapolis (next town over) there is Cannon Village. It's neat little place to shop. They have some unique stores and the streets are cobblestone. The Cannon sheet factory is right there so you can get some good deals on linens. There is also a huge mall called Concord something...mills maybe? They opened right after we left. Supposed to be pretty nice tho. Also about 45 minutes from Concord is Carowinds amusement park. That's a cool place to go. They have a huge water park as well. The whole park straddles NC and SC. It's kinda neat. There's a line so you can have one foot in NC and another in SC.
I hope that helps some. If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know! :D

I really miss North Carolina!!!

Mooresville is about 200 from Myrtle Beach, maybe a 5 hour drive.

You'll be much closer to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Would your family be interested in that? There are lots of cabins you can rent, and lots of fun little towns to explore. There's the grand and amazing Biltmore Estate that you can tour in Asheville, NC.

We have friends who live in Mooresville that we visit every time we drive to/from WDW. Mooresville is right on Lake Norman, so perhaps you can swim there. Our friends have a boat and have taken our kids waterskiing on the lake.

Carowinds Amusement Park is just south of Charlotte and would be an easy drive from Mooresville.

There are actually a lot of racing shops that you can tour. Most are in Concord or Mooresville. Try the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau for information.

Since you are into racing, you would probably like the Sam Bass Gallery near the speedway. At the speedway itself, you can take a tour that includes a ride around.

If you are in to shopping, Concord Mills Mall is located a couple miles from the speedway. It's huge and has a big speedway- themed amusement attraction your child might like. The mall draws more tourists each year than any other site in North Carolina except the Great Smokey Mountains.

Cannon Village is primarily furniture stores at this point, but you will probably want to visit there b/c it's Earnhardt's hometown. The Dale Earnhardt statue is there and also an exhibit about his life is in the Visitors Center.

The minor league baseball team that Earnhardt became involved with shortly before his death (Kannapolis Intimidators) provides a great family outing.

Downtown Concord has a wall of murals that includes a racing one and one of the best (and least expensive) ice cream shops anywhere.

Charlotte has professional ball teams, a good children's/science museum (Discovery Place), pretty good art museum (Mint Museum), exceptional crafts/design museum (Mint Museum Crafts + Design) and history museum (Musem of the New South). There's also lots of smaller historic sites, including plantations and where gold was first discovered in America (Reed Gold Mine).

There are many beaches on the North Carolina and South Carolina coasts you can get to in four hours.

Thanks so much for all the info. It was just what I was looking for.
