Drury

CLEAN
NICE PEOPLE
SAFE (!!!)
Free *REAL* (HOT) food for breakfast with SODA
Free afternoon coctails
Fenced in and gated parking
Walking distance to dome AND bourbon street
PET FRIENDLY

We stayed there for a concert next to the superdome. TOTALLY IMPRESSED with their staff. Super friendly and courteous. :)

ETA: Also close to street car lines...

I use tripadvisor and yelp to pick hotels in any city. Use these sites concurrently with Kayak and you can pretty much find a good hotel in any city.

That's how this Louisiana girl finds hotels in NOLA.

how about the St Charles Inn?

Never stayed there. Le Cirque is also nice, but not close to the dome.

ETA: Just had a thought. In my world, *close* means walking distance. If you are taking a cab, the Le Cirque is actually not that far. (New Orleans really isn't that big...so I always seem to think in terms of "can I walk there easily and is it safe to at night" when I think *close*. LOL!)

It doesn't have to be walking distance really if cabs are readily available. I think the street cars only run until x time and not sure they go to the dome.

The street car in front of the Le Cirque runs quite late. (It goes from one side of the hotel down several blocks to bourbon street, turns and goes down a block, then comes back up several blocks to end up on the other side of the hotel. Quite a unique location if you plan to use the streetcar system)

Some of the other street cars stop early I think, but the St. Charles really does run late. (I'm thinking all night, but don't want to give you bad info. maybe someone can help?) It doesn't go to the dome, but if you want to go *sightseeing* after, there's that option. :)

But I stand by my first post....if i were going back overnight, I'd stay at the Drury. ;)

this is what I get when trying to book the Drury online....were they expensive? This is a last minute thrown together trip.

Another vote for the Drury. When I was a manager in New Orleans, I had to put up 20 or so out of state workers that were helping after last years hurricanes. I put them in the Drury, and every one of them loved it. There was plenty of food close by. It's about ten blocks to the river, and the Aquarium.

I can't speak for prices, since we were given a corporate rate.

We like the Homewood Suites on Poydras - it is within walking distance to the Dome - We stayed there when I took my daughter and niece to the Jonas Brothers concert in August - I felt safe walking to and from the Arena ( right next to the Superdome) The Homewood was nice and it included breakfast the next day.

No, we actually chose them because they were cheap. (But not CHEAP CHEAP....ya know? LOL! A nicer hotel, but a very decent price.) Give them a call and see what happens. :D (Also, you could try booking them through travelocity or a similar service...)

ok, now I am looking into packages, seems I may get a better deal.

Make sure you are taking parking prices into account if you have a car. Nearly everything there is *pay to park*, but some are more than others...

I found a bed and breakfast on Prytania St which is 1.5 miles from the dome and 1.8 from the french qtr..now to figure out what to do new yrs eve!! pub crawl?
the room includes its own bath and parking....and we'll just be there to sleep so Sugar Bowl here we come!

YAY! :woohoo: I've never done the B&B thing in New Orleans. You'll have to come back with a trip report and let us know how you like the place. :cheer2:

us either, but with it being a holiday, the game and a last minute trip.....the hotel prices were either sold out or outrageous!! So this will be an experience, plus New Years in the FQ!! Wowza!
