Okay, I know I just posted.....but I are you guys for REAL??? Harsh, Harsh, Harsh!! It was obvious from the first post that it was his book. He wasn't being underhanded or would have gone to greater lengths to hide his identity! IMHO he was just trying to let people who may be interested know about his book without being too braggy. Why is this such a threat to some of you? Okay, now I'm sure you'll flame me too, but I think you all just need to lighten up.

Well self promotion is not allowed in the DIS rules. It was a manipulative move and quite frankly undermined the DIS network.

Not that I wouldn't love to get the credit, but it wasn't me who got published. Another DIS'er named Cindy was published though.

As a writing major, I 'd love to be published in that way!

I totally agree. Congrats to the OP.

It may be against DIS rules but no one is perfect. This board is sure full of people who wear seat belts everyday because it's the law, never speed, never do anything they shouldn't...blah...blah...blah...(not).

It's the holiday season and I'm just seeing so many mean people on this board lately and just had to post because this thread is just being too critital.

If it was against the rules and bothered you, just inform the moderators. It's being harsh and cruel on a daily basis that's getting worse. Some days I'm starting to regret visiting these boards anymore.

um so guess we should be getting rid of the crafty boards and the t shirt boars? we all post our stuff over there... that would seem to be self promotion as well. Personally, I think it's great that he's published, I'm bummed that it's 1st person but I'll probably still look for it since it's a fellow diser. In the spirit of the season, why not just say, "hey congrats" (or as my mom likes to say, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." So, congrats on getting your book published! I think that's awesome.

Do you want the Dis to become a big advertisement? And what about those that pay to advertise on the boards? The OP was an advertisement for his book. Pure and simple. It would be like me posting "pins for sale."

The crafty boards aren't selling thier wares so to speak. If you look at the OP, the original tone, the sly style of posting just oozes self promotion.

I'm impressed that it is published, but told the community in an underhanded way.

We can't even give ING codes, for goodness sakes (because we profit from that) so why should the OP get free advertisement?

DeanDoug- I am ordering your book from Amazon. CONGRATULATIONS on being published!!!! I don't really want to get involved in the controversy here on the DIS, but I will say if you don't promote yourself, who will?? Your intrepidness is probably what got you this far in the first place. Which begs the question- care to share who your agent is??
