Anyone know what ^ is supposed to mean?

I'd love to know. My niece does it all the time. It always makes me think "cat ears", lol.

It's like smiling so your eyes get squinty, from my understanding.

I have tried to search for its function on google, but no luck. The Disboards contain knowledgeable people so I shall just wait. :surfweb:

Or on a forum like this, it's a way of indicating the post immediately above, like little arrows pointing to it.

People also use it to point at the post directly above theirs. So if someone wrote something I agreed with I might do this: ^ and then say something about that post.

Sometimes it appears in duplicate, ^^:confused3

It's called a "caret" and used in proofreading. It's used to indicate that whatever is written above it should be inserted into the writing.

I've been using ^.^ or <.< or >.> as expressions. It mostly resembles the way anime drawings are done. More popular on video game sites or anime sites. I'm also found of O.o or o.O or O.O as expression rather than :) ;)

Sometime ^^ to refer to post above, ^5 means "high five", and there's probably a few more I can't think of at the moment.

OR you could just click the Quote button or say "Ditto!." :sad2:

"To the power of..." like in math...

2^3= 8

: ) I Miss math!

Hmm, I missed learning this in math.

On most calculators the carat (^) us used to indicate exponents. In normal writing it isn't. So 4^2 is 4 squared, 4^3 is 4 cubed, and x^n is x raised to the power of n.

If you open the windows calculator and switch to scientific mode you will see the following 3 buttons:

x^y
x^2
x^3

What Firedancer already said Imzadi.. I never see it written that way in class or learning math growing up but I know that key on my graphing calculator is used for exponents.

My windows calculator is missing that button.

And until this thread, if I had seen it, I would have thought it was just the UP arrow key.

This is all what my niece does and she is doing some sort of Japanese studies in college so she is into anime and all that. I saw all of those things that you did related to her posting.

I knew she wasn't trying to make a Mickey with all those oO's :lmao:

Thanks!

Is it in scientific mode? Click on view and change standard to scientific. I had a mistake in my post which I corrected.
