Anyone know what is happening Oct 18, 19, & 21?

Is there something going on?
It is not a race. Not a parade taping.

Could it be the Gartner convention (or is it Symposium)? I don't know what it exactly is but it's held every October at WDW.

Using the DVC studios?
I read they take up the Epcots resorts.
Even SSR studios are booked for those dates.

Food & Wine Festival is very popular with DVC members, you need to book early.

Garner Symposium is Oct 21 to 25.

We were at the Food and Wine Festival that same week last year. We booked 5 nights at BCV at the 8 month mark, and decided to try and extend our stay a few months later only to find no availability for a studio any where on property. We waitlisted for an OKW studio, and it came thru a few weeks later (the waitlist for 2 more nights at BCV never came thru). That is what I would suggest you do also!

I think that Oct 19th is a no-school day in FL. I've been to MK on the third Friday of Oct and was told that it was overrun with pre-teens and teens because the area did not have school that day. It happened on several visits. After the first time I made sure to stay away from MK on that day with my early elementary age kids. Too much bad language and pushing/shoving.

In the Indianapolis area, and I would imagine many other school systems, it is October Break. When I made my original reservation, I had to guess our son's days off only to find that they changed them this year. When I went to book the new date (about 6 months out), the pickings were slim.

Usually it's school break in MN around that time too. One of our friends took their son to WDW last year during it.

And in general it's a nice time to go - we're planning on it ourselves this year although no special reason - it's just the week we picked.

Yeah...a lot of members booked their trips before you did.

No great mystery to it. DVC resorts are designed to be near 100% occupancy year round. It doesn't take a special event to fill certain classes of rooms 3.5 months before the arrival date.
